So...I' ve got a logging road coming out into the field I hunt from the thick scrub pines I hunt next to. The deer use this trail alot. This should be a good place to look, right? Kinda weird question here: To save myself the time (and money, though I' m willing to spend it if it will help) of buying a decoy, would my 3D target work?
If so, should I use it with or without antlers? The kill zone on it is messed up pretty badly, but would it be good enough to fool a deer? If not, I' ve got one of those new Morrell targets coming. Would this work?
I' m being cheap, I know. But if it works...[:-] Thanks!

it will work but it will be a hassle to carry it to the woods. do you have a climber stand. is there good tall slick trees on the logging road . if so use the a good tree and ambush the deer when they are travlin it.
go deep hunt hard.

Fortunately, my stand is only about 200 or so yards back from my bedroom, so it' s not that hard to haul the target/decoy out.
The logging road is more like a tunnel through the scrub trees. They make like a roof over it, not very high up either. So, I think putting a stand there is out. My stand is only about 30-35 yards from it--out of my shooting range, but still within sight. So a deer coming out of there would be able to see my decoy. Right now I' m thinking a mock scrape ten yards or so upwind from my stand, a 3D target as a decoy
, some urine, and maybe a call...? Sound okay? With this set up, the buck should walk in front of me at close range, and he' d be distracted by the decoy, right? And...should I make the decoy a doe, or leave it a buck? If it' s a doe, should I use doe urine, and vice versa? Thanks!

Okay, I was looking in my Wildlife Research Hunting Scent Book, and it said #307 is a good lure to put in the drip bag. It said it works all season. So I' ll use that. And should I use my bleat can when I do this? Thanks a ton! Your info is priceless.

Oh, does the buck have to get used to the scrape? Or will it work right off the bat? If the former, I was thinking get him used to it, and then one day bring my decoy and call out...Sound good?
