Two years ago I called in a small buck with the Original Can, it was on the last day of the a trip in the closing hours, the week had been real slow...I tried the call--tipped it over one time and had this buck come running straight to me. Now, it may have been coming anyway--but I swear it was the call. Plus, it added a great ending to the week of hunting!

But that was two years ago--I haven' t had anything respond to that call in since--and I am getting really hungry for some venison!

I' ve been using one for years. For me they seem to call in more does than bucks, but that is no scientific study. Silence it when you are not using it though. One time (at deer camp) I forgot. It was going of as I was climbing my tree, and next thing you know a doe comes running in looking at me as I am half way up the tree.

Two weeks ago I shot an 8 pointer and he would not respond to the can. He came right in when I grunted though.

FYI, there is no such thing as an estrous call. " The Can" simply mimics the contact call made by all deer, in this case doe and fawns.
Rob, not to argue with you (cause you know more about this than me) but in Nov. issue of Peterson' s Bowhunting in an article titled " Soft-Sell Whitetail Calling" , on pg. 75 it says quote: Another important bleat is the " estrous bleat" indicating a desire to breed, which has a " louder" two-tone call with added emphasis. Then it goes on in to describe an estrous bleat, how it sounds etc, in the next several paragraphs.

I am not trying to argue with you because I don' t really know if there is such a thing or not but I have read a fair amount of detail on such a bleat in Peterson' s and in North American Whitetail in the past. I will also be the first to admit that I think alot of what we read in magazines might be a little truth and a little bull combined.

But to the topic at hand, I bought " The Can" last year after a buddy had great sucess calling in does with it. I tried it out and called in does and some small bucks on several occasions. I actually called in a group of 4 or 5 does and I ended up shooting one of the does for my first bowkill. I turned the can over softly about 3 times and 30 seconds later this group of does came trotting in at attention and appeared to be looking for the source of the call. Once they didn' t see anything they went at ease and started milling around. I have no idea if it is really an " estrous" call or just a common communication call between deer but I' ve been very happy with the results.

I' ve got one of the darn things too, but I' ve had more success mimicing one of the calls I saw a guy doing on one of the shows. Its hard to describe but the does AND bucks seem to love it...at the right time of the season.

I' ve seen does RUN from various calls at different times too.

I have the (early season can)
i have actually got mixed feelings bout it...i once called a doe to me that i seen some distance out, and was able to take her....and i also watched in horror as i tried to use it another time on a doe i saw as she bolted like she was off to the races....i don' t know what the heck happened....i didn' t do anything differently than i had done before....i still use it, but just kinda makes me wonder bout it sometimes...

I had a 1 1/2 old 6 point walking through the swamp. He stopped 33 yards away in an opening just large enough for me to see his head. When he put his head down, I turned “the can” over once and he jerked his head up, looked towards me and walked right to me stopping 17 yards away broadside. I had seen a few older deer, so I passed up the shot. Being the first season I have ever used “the can”, I have to say I am very impressed with it so far.

I bought one last year after hearing good things about it, but had no success with it.

I carried it with me the first time this year 2 nights ago. I bleated 2 times with my regular call and was getting ready to pull out the can when the buck I killed showed up.
