Should I Switch From Expandable Back To Fixed Broadheads?
Well for the last couple years I have been shooting expandable broadheads with no problems. The reason I switched from fixed broadheads was because for the life of me I could not get them to fly right out of my Hoyt Striker. This year I purchased a Hoyt Razortec with a NAP 4000 drop away rest and have found it to be an extremely accurate set up. I never even bothered trying to shoot fixed broadheads out of the Razortec so I just picked up a couple packs of 125 grain Shockwaves and figured that I just use those again. Well today I was shooting with some friends and decided to try a 125 gain Thunderhead just to see how well it would shoot in my bow. Well to my surprise it shot exactly like my field tips at 30 yards. I also tried 3 other brands of fixed broadheads and all of them flew just like my field tips. I couldn' t believe it. So now I can' t decide if I should switch back to a fixed broadhead or just use the Shockwaves that I already have? My setup is yielding 70#' s of KE so I should have plenty of penetration with either head. So what do you guy' s think I should do???

If it ain' t broke then don' t try and fix it. if you wan' t to switch to fixed heads then do so and pay for em. i personally would continue to shoot what i had until it came time to buy some more.

Im with ark bo, but I do like the performance of the fixed blade alot better. The only reason I dont use them is because I dont like buying 2 new targets a year. I feel like ya gotta practice like ya hunt. Those fixed blades are hard on anykind of target.

Since I believe in simplicity and ' less is more' for a hunting bow, that' s an easy question. If your setup shoots fixed blade heads well, I say shoot ' em.
Not to mention that a frugal character like me can get a dozen good fixed blade heads for what I' d spend for 3 mechanicals.

I' ve seen the look on my friends face when his expandable didn' t work. Needless to say I shoot fixed and he will never see that look on my face. I shot a doe last week and my old Bear broadhead went right through her shoulder blade and out the other side behind the other leg. I resharpend the head and it' s ready to go again. But for those who like to buy new things, go for it, I like to eat venison.

I shot a 120 lb doe recently with a mechainical broadhead. It was launched by an old PSE with a 50# draw weight. At 30 yards, it went right through the deer' s body and messed up the liver pretty bad. I spent 2 hours looking for that arrow to no avail. I like mechanicals because they seem to shoot good for me and also because I saw a bowhunter once who cut up his leg pretty good with a conventional head. (I know, stupidity is not a good reason). I just feel mechanicals are a little safer to handle for some people.
