I helped track one that went about 3/4 mile. I stumbled on the blood trail - and soon after the neighbor hunter came along and said he had hit one - so I helped track. It was bleeding heavy, but dark. Back then it seemed like following was the right thing to do, but we jumped it 2 times and he shot it in its bed the 3rd time we saw it. It had been liver shot - maybe slightly in one lung too.
Had he waited to follow - and I hadn' t have stumbled on the trail - the deer would have died in its 1st bed (near where I was hunting) - about 2 hours and 250 yds from point of impact. All in all - we were probably luck that he was able to harvest the buck considering the distance it went.

hey how u doin my name is graham and im 16 years old..in the past 2 seasons i have harvested 2 bucks and nice 4..(first deer) and a nice 7 point last season..anyways my 4 point ran 40yards frmo point of impact..i was shooting rockey mountian snypers and he went down hard..now my 76 point was shot from about 25 yards and he only ran about 35-40 yards in fact i could see laying dead close enough 2 shoot him again from were i was...
..now this may be luck..but i dont see how a deer should run 150-200 yards if u give it time and space.. but yes i have had great success with close area deaths.. happy hunting

I' ve helped a friend trail one for well over a mile. We jumped him several times and eventually, I think he just bled to death. The shot was in the low leg, no vitals, never entered the body cavity. Rifle shot. Personally, my farthest with a bow was probably somewhere between 100-200yds. A vitally wounded animal will rarely travel over 300yds if not pushed.

I tracked one about 1.5 miles that was gut shot. It was alot of hands and knees trailing with pin head size drops of blood every 50 feet or so. It took about 10 hours of tracking to find it but it was well worth the time.

With a bow... about 600-700 yards. Watched him die from 100 yards away through the binos. With a gun on snow when I was a kid we tracked one for parts of 2 days before getting him. We kept jumping him and couldn' t put another slug in him.

500 yards all in circles in a thick rock and sprout area.Found it in a rock bed next to a spring. No blood after 100 yards.Just found it by making circles and walk upon it . took about 5 hours to find it.

i have never had one run over 100 yards.90% never have made it 50 yards.maybe i have just been luckier than some.i have talked to other hunters and heard some real horror stories.if you make a good shot and don' t try to rush it i feel confident of a short trip to pick him up.

I have tracked several with my dog for a great distance.one for over a mile and several more 3/4 to a mile. all were bad hits, but found them.
A buddy and myslef trailed a doe I shot several years ago for over a mile." BAD" hit on my part.we found her in a large sink hole.the coyotes had already eaten all the insides out(guts, heart, and lungs.)it was spots every 30 to 40 feet.took 4 hrs.
that was my bad hit.the only one I have had.I have saw deer with ham shots go 4 to 500 yards.some only 50 yards.
with out my dog we would have lost a bunch of deer.I have people call me all times of the night to help.one guy shot one at 7:30 am,didn' t call me till 4:00pm.it was slow going,we did find him,it was a gut shot.
the most important thing is to never give up,if there is blood or sign.

I have only had one make it over 125 yrds.....that I found. And I know I' ll catch flack for this but it' s true......I made a good shot directly behind the shoulders on a big doe with a RM Snyper and she ran about 200 yrds......it was a tuff trailing job but I found her after about 2 hours. Sparse but consistant blood trail ...taught me a lot about tracking slowly and it' s had me scratching my head for years as to how she made it that far .....but she did !! I seriously doubt it will ever happen again with the same shot but.......???
