I can' t say how far I would shoot because it depends on the moment. I don' t feel as comfortable shooting from a stand than the ground, so I might take a longer shot from the ground. It also depends on what the deer is doing, how much clothing I have on, many variables.
But even so, the two I' ve gotten were both under 20 yards. So even if you felt comfortable enough in a given situation to take a longer shot, most of the high percentage shots will be short anyway.

I decide what " too far" is as the opportunities arise. My max hunting range varies quite a bit, so I can' t say it' s any given yardage. I' ve taken deer with selfbows at 30 yds when I' ve felt dialed in, then have let my bow down on deer at 10 because I couldn' t get " locked" onto them.
I can say that I use natural blinds that are generally within 5 to 15 yards of where I expect game to pass. Of the last six stickbow deer, shot distances were 8, 9, 10, 18, 25, & 30 yds.

I have one pin sighted in at 20 yards...It puts me dead on at 15 and 25 as well. I practice out to 50 during the off season then midway through Sept. I adjust for hunting situations. Though 50 is an easy chip shot for me on targets, there' are just too many variables that come into play at the moment of truth. By limiting my hunting range I feel I can make a more ethical and humane kill.
