The buck I took last year I shot right behind the shoulder between the ribs, through one lung, right through the center of his heart, through the tip of other lung and the broadhead stopped at the hids on the opposite side. The deer pulled the arrow or it fell out 30 yards away and I was left with a blood trail that was fair/good to start (pink and bubbly) then quickly tapered off to occasional drops that were tough to spot in the red speckled leaf ground. It took me, my brother, and 2 friends on our hands and knees about an hour to pinpoint his direction marking with toilet paper the path every time we found a drop..........we found him about 100 yards from where I shot him and he died running. So a deer with what I consider a perfect shot left me with a tough trailing job to say the least. This year I have gone to Magnus Stinger blades for better penetration and hopefully a passthrough if I do my part. I just want more blood to follow that' s all.
So do you guys get passthroughs more often then not?? if so do you consistently get them with the same setup or is it random.....depending more on shot placement then equipment used??
Thanks

I' ve shot one deer that didn' t pass thru....I lost him too![:' (] It was a bad shot taken in low light....my fault entirely. That was about 4 years ago. Prior to that and since, all of my shots have been pass thru' s. Some with Thunderheads, some with Vortex heads.

Every arrow I have ever shot a deer with has completely passed through it, save one. That one was the 2nd shot at a deer I had hit in the gut and the only reason it didn' t go through was b/c it hit the ground as it was coming out the other side (deer was bedded down at the time). I shoot fixed-blade Zwickey heads.
But go figure this - I shot a coyote a few years back and my arrow only passed halfway through.
I don' t think it matters what type of head you shoot, if you hit a deer in the shoulder it' s not going to pass through. The key is just to get enough penetration to hopefully get at least one lung and then still be able to find the deer.

I' ve had a few that didn' t pass through, but not many. Probably 90% of my shots are pass throughs. I shoot alot of KE with Magnus 2 blade heads on fairly heavy XX78' s, so I expect pass throughs. I know out of the last 12 I' ve shot, only 1 wasn' t a pass through...and it hit a limb and went in sideways. Otherwise I feel it would have passed through as well. It almost made it through as it was

I' m like RA........I always get a pass throughs unless I hit a shldr or leg bone !!
With that new Patriot and Stingers...........I think you are going to be on your hands and knees again with your buddies..... but trying to find your arrow after it blows through the deer and sticks in the ground 20 " !! It' s hell to find them covered with blood in the leaves when you only have about 8-9" sticking up !!

Of my last 8 deer kills, I got 75% pass through, 6 of 8, using spitfires. The two that didn' t pass through were both shoulder hits, but I still had quick clean kills on them. One of the deer killed was a big mulie, pass through on broadside at 20 yrds.

I just went and figured mine out and its fairly low. Only 50% stick in the ground pass thru rate. 63% poke 2 holes in the deer, but don' t pass thru. Its not for lack of energy, I just hit bone alot, mostly that opposite shoulder.

There have been only two times that I didn' t get a pass through on a deer. But, and I' m a ashamed to admit this, both shots were taken at poor angles and didn' t go through the boilermaker. I know we are not supposed to take low percentage shots but unfortunately I did as most others probably have at some time or another. Every other deer I have hit in the vitals resulted in a bilateral pneumothorax. How' s that for a ten cent word that' s probably not spelled correctly from a five cent guy..
