Never heard of the guy. Then I have mixed feelings on the fenced in hunting. I found in the past 40 years most people that put down fenced in hunting in a 50,000 acre area are from the northeast. They are lucky to have 1 acre up here. I was born and raised in the S.E. corner of Pa. use to fighting for acres to hunt on,lived right next to a orange pumpkin gamelands. 2 hunters per square foot. I moved to South Texas for a job.
First time I was invited to hunt was on a fenced in 50,000 acre ranch. I said no thanks. Then the guy said at least ride along for the weekend. I did and never seen a fence. All the deer seemed to act normal and 3 out of 10 guys shot a deer. heck I had a better kill record up in Pa. A fenced in pay to kill area like they have in Pa. and there are many of them should not be compared to the huge southwestern ranches. Lets be fair in our comments. Most probably never seen a 50,000 PLUS hunting area. They dont fence the area to keep the deer in ,but the poachers out. When you spend money for a biologist and maintain that amout of acres ,would you want some idiot to blast them for free? I can see both sides of the argument. Did I ever shoot a deer on that place? NO,But I did shoot some hogs. They were free.

I' m watching the show now. Watched Brittingham' s son shoot a deer with a questionable 1/4ing away shot (the deer did go down) and his 12 y.o. daughter shooting a bison with a 300 WinMag and the bison was facing directly away from them.(Bison also went down) IMHO not good form letting your kids take marginal shots like that, but hey what ever floats your boat.

Just wanted to comment on the fence. IMHO like cardeer stated a 50k acre ranch is not fenced to keep animals in it is fenced to keep hunters and unwanted game out. They put a lot into their management program and don' t want poor genetics wandering onto their land. No I have never hunted a fenced ranch but that doesn' t mean I never will. There is a huge difference between high fencing 50k acres versus 50-100.

Spoken like a true gentleman cardeer, here here. I hunted twice in 99 on a 45,000acre section of The Encinitos Ranch deep in south TX and while not fenced, like car said, you rarely ever even got close enough to the border of a place that big to even see a fence. One border was 12 miles long just to give you some idea of the scale a place like that is, the " short side" was 3 miles long. When you spend the kind of money some folks do on big bucks, you would be a fool NOT to protect them. Do you know what the biggest expense landowners down there have? Damage from illegal aliens cutting their way across the south TX landscape.
I suspect that most of the " hard feelings" for such places are simply from those who would really like to do a hunt like these, but dont have the money. Thats just simple childish jealousy IMHO,
