I think it is a cool way to compare a rack to others racks. But it's not a huge deal. I have never scored any of my deer, and neither has my grandparents, or other relatives. None would make the top ten so, it's not a big deal, cuz we're happy with them the way they are. We go maily by saying, it's a 150 or 170 class buck, instead of saying exact. Cuz around here, nobody really cares, unless it makes it into the records.

I'd enter my buck to show how good of a hunter I am or just how lucky I was!

In my early years it was a real obsession to get one in the books. There was a part of me that didn't believe it would ever happen. Now after being lucky enough to get several in, with several more that would easily make it in, it is no longer a big deal.

I've never shot a P&Y buck, and quite frankly, dont care if I ever do. I've been fortunate enough to take my fair share of good bucks, but the personal satisfaction from the hunt is all I need and want. I like the quiet life, somebody else can have the publicity if they choose. Dont get me wrong, big bucks in the wild make my blood pound, but sharing the good fortune and stories with close friends is enough for me.

I guess it is a personal preference. I like to see the scores in the books. I always dreamed of shooting a P&Y buck, so I could enter it. Now I have two that easily make it, and I have not entered them. Go figure! I still think that I will enter one, when I get a really big one. Hey, a guy can hope, right?

I've never measured a deer. I'm now 58 so don't suspect that'll be changing. I suppose if I got one of those out of sight 200 inch rascals I'd probably do it just like 99.999 % of the world would. I also suspect if there were some money to be made at it I'd cash in. Then my wife would have to stop giving me all this &quot;deer meat must cost $10000 a pound&quot;.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> Seriously, I doubt I will or would ever enter a deer in a book. I don't care about &quot;Honoring the Animal&quot; in front of the rest of the world. It's between the deer and me.

shed1

My dad has several P&Y and B&C bucks on his wall. not one of them has a certificate by it that shown the score and book registration. I am 28 years old and still hunt with dad and we still take some dandy bucks. However i was raised on the question How was your hunt? not How big of a buck did you shoot? Dad also told me to make sure to thank God every time you harvest an animal.

These are the morals I have grew up on. I have nothing against the record books but I know between my dad and I right now we hav about 20 heads that will probly never see the books. But who knows, I would like to give my dad the credit he deserves as a hunter. People walk into his basement and their mouths drop. As for me I would consider putting my heads in the books.

I hunt to please myself and no one else. If people ask, I happily tell them successes and stories.

Well I doubt I would ever get one put in the books unless it was a world record, which I doubt I will get in Va. I hunt for the hunt and the meat, do not get me wrong I will definantly choose a big buck over a lesser buck, and I do scout for big bucks and have got a few (Nothing like cardeers dinks), but I eat what I shoot and I have not figured out how to eat antlers. I do appreciate P&Y scoring system because it does allow you to appreciate the size of a rack, but other than that I could take it or leave it.

I enjoy venison to much to let every deer I see that is not a monster walk, hunting is not about &quot;I got the biggest&quot; nor is it about &quot;I got the most&quot;. Hunting to me is the same as it was for all of my family, the hunt and the venison. I really have never understood what the big deal is about &quot;I got the biggest&quot;. Hunting is not a competition among people! Hunting is a competition between you and the deer.

Folks who strictly trophy hunt to me are not hunters, they are competitors, they hold their noses in the air and say things like &quot;I won't shoot anything less than a 170+&quot;. Some how they have it in their heads that hunting is a competition among men, which is a disgrace to the deer.

To me every deer is a trophy! Be it a buck or doe, a 4 point or a ten. Do not get me wrong I would be excited and would certainly let people I know, know that I killed a monster buck, but to kill a deer just to win a contest or get it in the books, that to me is not what hunting is about. That is competition.

I have no problem with the record books and think they are a great way to compare big bucks and to show off the animal.

I compare this to the World Series or the Super Bowl. That is something that every player strives for every yr. They all want to win the &quot;big game.&quot; Hunting is no different, it is a sport. Sure many folks hunt for meat only and thats fine too, many folks play baseball and football just for fun. I just don't see how you can be against a guy who is going for his goal of killing a book buck. Sure there will be some people who don't get their deer in an ethical manner or in the same way we would but thats is in any sport. I set goals for myself, if I don't reach them, fine I still had a good time. Even if I killed a &quot;book buck&quot; I don't know if I'd enter it or not due to the cost, but if I had the money sure I'd show off the deer. If you don't want to set goals for yourself thats ok too. Just my opinion......
