Tex I wouldnt be so harsh on the boys deer!
Your right he needs to " walk" but for a PA buck thats about as nice as it gets. The place is CRAWLIN with hunters and if that buck was filmed standing between houses as is the norm in that state he WONT live to see 4 1/2 (IMO he has to much musculature developement for 2.5). On my places in TN, MO and KS YEAH I' d let him walk, but if had never killed one like that with my bow, the only direction that buck would be goin is DOWN!!! I bet 9 of 10 guys in here would be TICKELED chitless to wack one like that. LOL, whens the last time you saw a " trophy zone" or an area with a reputation for BIGGUNS in PA? That state gets more gunfire than Iraq!
BuckMag, my only question is why do you keep filming them " in the dark" ? Spotlights in late summer will only keep a buck nocturnal when they shouldnt otherwise be. I know the temptation to see them and take great pictures is there, but MUCH better pics are made while he is lying on your tailgate in OCT! Let em rest and they might just hang around an area for the first couple of weeks before season. Find his staging area and then STAY OUT of the woods until season. If you want pics, look into nightvision equipment and even with that its really hard to get in and out of summertime fields full of deer without busting them.
If I " scout/watch" summer deer and they arent at least 1/4 mile away from me (1/2 being better) I wont bother going in that area. You are only gonna " educate" them anyway and by the time season opens chances are that they wont be doing the exact same thing anyway. Summertime should only be for letting you know what will be available that fall. Dont put stock in sightings/locations etc. Just look from afar and get prepared for the upcomin opener.
Good luck Mag,
RA

i agree with red, from what i have read about the number of hunters vs deer population in ny,pa,mi,most all bucks up to 2.5-3.5yrs old are killed each year,so if this is true i would not pass him if i had the shot.i hunt a small piece of privaye land surrounded by private and public land and have passed deer most hunters would not,and heard the shot and never saw the deer again.

Hey Buck Magnet! How close are you to the Armstrong Co. line? That buck looks darned familiar. I have a pic of one from last year and I' d swear its the same buck. If I can find it I' ll post it for you to see. If its the same buck then I sure am glad to see that no one got him last year!!!

In these parts, we call that a Coone and Clampett buck- meaning 100 - 125... Those are the bucks that I always hate to see in the early season because if I whack one, my own rule is I don' t kill another buck that season. It' s a beautiful buck, so the temptation to take him would be great. But one more year and he will be a true monster.
He already made it through 2 hunting seasons, there is a pretty decent chance he' ll make it through another. At the very least, he would get those awesome genes in some does before rifle season as it' s unlikely there are many other bucks who could take him on.
Heck, either way it' s going to be a ton of fun for you this fall trying to get into range so you can make your own decision!

Thanks guys,
After seeing the BIG boy (one I saw last year) about a week ago, I think this buck is pretty safe. That other buck puts him to shame.
I am pretty sure that this is the buck I saw last year that was hanging out with another HUGE buck. I havn' t seen him again this year, but, he is probablly still around. That buck was a very very wide 8 point, probablly in the 22-24" outside spread range.
There are probablly 3 bucks on that same property that are all bigger than this one, but, it would be tough if he walked in and stoped at 15 yards broadside

Definitely a beautiful buck BM and in the same class as the bigger deer that I see every season down my way on public land. In my neck of the woods if that deer is out on public land at night during this time of the year then everybody and their brother will have a spotlight on it every night between now and the beginning of the season...
