Default BRACE HEIGHT or A.T.A. ?

I'm looking into buying the HAVOC-TECH. I like the fact it is a short ata and pretty forgiving brace height. I plan to use it for both hunting and 3D. I'M CONFUSED! People state a longer ata is more accurate. Example, CYBERTECH 36" ata as opposed to HAVOC-TECH 31.5" ata. BUT, the CYBERTECH has a 6.5" brace height and HAVOCTECH has 7.5" brace height. I know I need to shoot a bow before I buy, and I know some things must be sacraficed when buying a bow. But, what is more important for accuracy, A LONGER ATA or A BIGGER BRACE HEIGHT? Thanks for hearing me out, and I appreciate any replies.

Good question. Frank?!?

My natural inclination would be to say brace height would affect accuracy more than a-to-a length, but I know others would argue that point (right, Coug? ) I guess the reason I would say that is I've shot the MQ-32 and Bowtech's Tech 29, and felt I was as accurate with those as I am with my longer MQ-1.

This question actually stemmed from CougarMags post. Nowhere in there did anybody talk about brace height, and I was under the impression that that affects a bows forgiveness and accuracy more than anything. After his post, I am re-thinking the HAVOC-TECH. Am I wrong?

Personally I think that it depends on what you feel more comfortable with
I shoot a larger ATA and a shorter brace height but thats what I like
go and shoot both bows and see which one you are more comfortable with

Some people can shoot shorter brace heights than others. I have never had much of a problem with shorter brace heights because of the way I hold and extend my bow arm, but I still prefer at least a 6.5" brace height, and I like 7" better. I don't think brace height will affect accuracy much. Its just what you are comfortable and best for each individual, just like its a personal preference on axle to axle length. I guess I am more from the old school, when yrs. ago bow mfgs. couldn't make those short bows shoot without putting a jolt through you. But I know things have greatly improved.

It depends on several factors, your draw length for one thing. For longer draw archers I think the short bow could tend to be more critical than for shorter draws. Brace height is also important. I think I would choose the cybertech simply becuase I feel that the extra length will make for a more stable bow, shooting with my 29" draw length.

I had to make the same choice. I went with the HavocTec because I am more hunter than 3Der. There is no way I am going to drag a 36" ata bow around in the woods and up to my treestand. My preference is a short bow for that reason. For 3D and indoor shooting it will have to do until I decide to buy a bow for each situation.

I think 5shot and Tribalscream's posts mirror my thoughts on this issue.

A person can't really just pit axle to axle length against brace height without considering other factors such as the riser design (reflex, deflex, etc..), the archer's draw length and, most importantly, the application that the bow is going to be used for.

As I stated in Cougar Mag's post...I am a bowhunter first and foremost. I want something that is easy to carry around and shoot because of tight conditions or a long walk....so that would mean a short, light bow with a large brace height (7.5 inches or better). My shot distances are almost always less than 30 yards so a long axle to axle length isn't my primary consideration.

If, however, I was looking for a 3D/bowhunting bow I would look for something a little longer, possibly with about a half inch shorter brace height (7 inches) since speed is more important in 3D and accuracy/forgiveness can be more controlled on a 3D course than when out hunting.

If I was looking for a indoor target/field archery bow then I would want a long axle to axle length, a large brace height and a heavier mass weight to help steady the bow because of the incredible accuracy needed to compete in those sports.

And I am sure someone else has also brought up the issue of clothing being hit by the bowstring when bowhunting. This can be a definite concern for most hunters. But, as some folks do, you can add an arm guard to the outside of your bowhunting clothes to rememdy this.

My opinion.....if all else is equal then brace height will play a bigger role in accuracy when compared to axle to axle length for bowhunting situations.

I would have to say that accuracy and forgivingness are two seperate things. If you are looking for forgivingness, then a larger ATA and a larger brace height is very important. For shooting fixed broadheads, forgivingness (IMO) is important, so I buy my hunting bows accordingly. I shoot a 38" ATA and a 7.5 brace height. But, (also important) I shot feathers four flethed with a helical and a fall away rest.

Accuracy I believe lies in the most part (but not totally) in the shooters hands.

Like what has been stated, a lot of shooters can shoot a small ATA and brace height and shoot accuractely.

BC,

So if a typical archer punches the trigger on both an 8 inch brace height bow and a 6.5 inch brace height bow then there will not be a difference in accuracy?

I would tend to disagree with that.
