We were talking about something last weekend and it seems to be at play here... (unless Buck Fever froze you and you couldnt bring yourself to shoot...)
When a deer approaches, and gets into shooting range and you don't actually kill the deer, you second guess everything. If you were waiting for a better shot on this buck and it never came, you kick yourself for not taking the best shot you had. If you would have rushed and shot as he scratched his ear missed/wounded him, you would be kicking yourself for rushing and not waiting for a better shot.
Seems to be the nature of bowhunting.
