yes huntnfreak it is true not all people are as fortunate as us idahoans . ive got about a equall # of mulie racks as whitetail but i must say the mulies have all been shot with my rifle at well over 100 yards and i have never shot a whitetail over 100 yards. but all the deer huntin in idaho doesnt even compare to buglin in that bull to 10 yards and having all your hair stand up straight as he bugles back. or having to jump behind a tree as a herd of 20 run straight at you because your huntin partner got upwind. i can only assume you have it as good down south as i do up north . happy huntin

I hunt mule deer and whitetail, Mule deer here in Colo. and whitetail on the family farm in Ks.I just got my first mule deer this year with bow, and it was much harder than any of the whitetails I've gotten.Like said above, there are just way more whitetails than mulies, and way more whitetail hunters.A trophy mule deer is one of the hardest trophys to come by, and seems that it is getting harder and harder. There are still a few places that you can find and hunt the mule deer without being guided, but those places are becomeing harder to find!

I live & hunt in North Idaho. (My wife says hunt & then live). I grew up hunting whitetails in MO. But now I hunt ELK. I might shoot a deer, but thats just because he got in the way of my elk hunting. We also have bear, cougar, turkey, waterfowl...etc.
Glad to hear from another Idaho person.

We go on an annual hunting trip out west each year for a little over a week. Been going for about 4 years now with the last one being my only successful one. Here is a picture of my mule deer. Check out my website for the pictures of the elk and other deer.

I see a couple other fellow North Idahoans in here. Born and raised in North Idaho. I hunt whitetail, elk and mule deer also. But mostly whitetail and elk with my bow. Mule Deer I hunt with a rifle. It is nice living in a state that offers so many different species.

nidahoscott,
Your comment about having 20 elk run at you, and having to jump behind a tree, brought a smile to my face.
In 1979 when spotting just before my first elk hunt, I heard the thunder of many hooves coming my way at a running pace. At first, I had no clue, then I remembered hearing something just like that in an old western. I couldn't figure out how so many horses got loose, though. The pounding hooves were coming straight at me, so I moved behind a scrubby pine (I was above treeline). When the large group of elk, exploded into my view, just 15 yards away, I almost wet myself. Good thing it was a few days before the season, because I would never have even gotten my bow up, I was in such a state of shock.<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>

huntn freak, I have only taken 3 mulies in my life. But then, I`ve only gone hunting for them 3 times. 2 of my mulies were taken in your state. Section # 17 on the nez perce.
Wow, is that some beautiful, and remote country! I plan on hunting mulies again someday, but not until I get a booner whitetail, with my bow.
