Default Target for broadheads?

I' m in the market for a new target and would like to get one that holds up well to broadheads. I know there are a lot out there to choose from and wondered if anyone had any personal experience? What about the 3D targets out there? Are there any that hold up better than others? Thanks

I have a layerd target like most everyone here does and they do not hold up all that good at all. There is a target that has a fine clay center that you shoot into that you just refill the clay and good as new. The drawback is that it will leave clay on your broadhads that you will have to remove and it aint cheap. Prbably wouldn' t work too good on mechanicals as the clay would get into all of the grooves that they have.

I use the block target butts and they last quite a while. Although I only shoot my broadheads to tune and ensure they are hitting with my field points. I may be the lucky one but I have found most times my BH' s group with my field points, as long as my bow is tuned properly. This way I don' t chew up target or dull my BH' s. A buddy uses a burlap sack filled with plastic shopping bags, he also hangs a piece of carpet as a back up stop behind when firing BH' s into it, seems to work pretty good. He refills with new plastic bags as they become compacted or worn.

The 3D targets don' t handle the broadheads well and tear up easy. It' s just not worth the money to go buying a new 3D target and have to replace it a month later. I would stick with the foam broadhead targets. Some are only like 15 dollars and so therefore, easy to replace without going bankrupt. Mike,-

None of them hold up real well. I have a Delta riverbottom buck, shot it in half in five months. I wouldn' t even reccommend that one for field points. I had the Cube and after about 50 broadheads I was getting pass throughs and the target face was completely gone. My block has had about 100 broadheads shot into it and it is still holding up well, the face looks pretty bad but it is still stopping the arrows. I have found that if you twist the arrow as you pull it out it does not tear up the target nearly as bad. I have also learned that the dull practice blades you can get for broadheads seem to do about 2X the amount of damage to the target as sharp ones.

I found that there was an industrial refergerator plant in my town that cleaned out it' s insulation spray guns every day. They shot them int bags and they are about the size of an outdoor trash can. The foam works great for BH and field tip practice. You can keep rotating it around to stop your shots and because they are FREE just go and get a new one when they wear out. I pick up a new one every year and have three others at my range that still work OK from the past years.

They generally have 20 - 30 of these per day at the place that I pick mine up at.

I think that if you called one of those guys that does the spray in insulation for homes and asked him, he would give you one of his trash bags full when he cleans out the guns each day. Pick up 4 or 5 and set up a walk though course!

I agree with the sprayed house insulation. It works great because its cheap and easy to pull broadheads out of. I only paid 2 bucks for a 2' x3' card board box to be filled. If I get another one filled it will be a little deeper. Ive even used expandeble broad head and not had any blades break.
Another cheep target is bag full of sheeps wool for reagular tips. Ive never shot broadheads into them but the arrows pull out very easy with target tips. Most ranchers will sell it to you pretty cheap since the market for wool dropped. Plus buying some may get your foot in the door for hunting rights.
