I shot my first doe and first deer the very first time I ever hunted deer. It was opening morning of bow season and it was my first try at bowhunting. I had a doe and two fawns come in to me working the edge of an alfalfa field and were just about to cross into a soybean field when I let the arrow fly at the doe. I got her and had filled my doe tag and gotten my first ever deer within 15 minutes of legal shooting hours and 15 minutes into my new passion of bowhunting. I held out for a nice buck and passed on little ones for the next 4 years. I refused to shoot any buck less than PY. Well, when I finally was able to harvest my PY'er I did so with little room to spare. It was a 9-pointer that scored 126...whew! He field dressed 195lbs though...he is on my wall along with the other PY'ers I've gotten since then. I've got pics somewhere and will try to get them posted.

My 1st bowkill was last year. I had hunted this spot a little and had seen a really nice P&Y 10pt. He had circled me while rattling and had got downwind and blasted out of there when he winded me.
It was 11/4 and I had been on stand for about an hour. I was sitting there watching some squirrels, when directly behind me it sound like a tornado was ripping up a tree. I spun around and could see this deer about 7 yrds off the base of my tree. I must have been pretty intent on watching those squirrels or simply daydreaming. His head was hidden behind a tree and I stood, watching him, KNOWING it was the nice 10pt. I drew, put my pin on him and shot him perfect. Him and his small 8 pt rack went about 40 yrs. Wrong Buck. Ok for 1st one. Lesson learned, make sure its the big un'
