Default The Doe or the buck

During deer season I always try to hunt the does, because thats were the bucks hang out.I normally try to take about 3 to 4 young does for family & friends{the younger the better the meat].Then the rest of the year I trophy hunt.one of the buck tags must be 4pts or better,i`ll harvest 120 class or better only.It seems the whole state is gearing towards state trophy managment, some countys all ready have antiler regs[15inch speed or better].With the liberal doe tags and days georgia wiil soon be know for monster buck.We already have big ones!

Now for the senero-Its early season and early evening, your in your tree stand.you have 3 deer in the freezer at home, you have plenty of deer tags in your pocket.when a doe and a nice 10 pt buck steps out-which one do you shoot? BE honest[]

So after I finish field dressing the 10 pt if the doe comes back I' ll whack her. If not, she' ll be around tomorrow. 10 pts. don' t show up very often. IF he' s a shooter with no doe present he' s a shooter anytime. I' ll shoot 6 or 7 a year plus I hunt on crop damage(does only). Anything above a 6 point is probably going to catch an arrow unless he' s smaller than the others I' ve shot that year. I try to shoot one bigger than the last one. I let a lot go by.... but no 10 point.

for me it' d have to be the buck. it seems that you' d come across doe' s so much more frequently that it would be a waste of a good opportunity, IMHO.

Being a Trophy Hunter myself, I would have to judge the " 10 Pointer" to see if he makes the grade, is mature, etc. Saying that is a 10 pointer doesn' t tell me enough to make a judgement call of pass or take. I weigh all things out before deciding if I should try and harvest an animal, that even includes does. I have seen 10 pointers that are immature and wouldn' t break 110 or meet what I lay down as my personal standard and I have seen 10 pointers that are every bit what I am chasing, just depends.

I will assume he is everything I am looking for, than no brainer...take him and hunt the ladies for the rest of the year.

I would have to see the deer and judge the size of rack and body. I have taken plenty of big rack eight pointers and have let plenty of small rack eight pointers walk.

Its not the number of points that make a mature deer.

Wasn' t finished, sorry.

When you say nice 10 pt' er I am assuming you mean mature, 4 - 5 yrs old. Then I would take him, without hesitation.
