Bowhunting Biggame for 45 years I have had a few & all were quick deaths. 1 Back of the head (brain), 1 neck & 1 Big 8 & a Big 7 & 6 (center of back into chest)sniffing my scent rag & a 50" Caribou as he ran by me @ 15 yards (on video).
I still want the Double lung. good luck to all this season...

Friend of mine droped a 3 legged deer in its tracks last year. He shot it at 20 yards. The bow was set on 55 pounds. Dont know if it counts since it didnt have 4 legs to run with!

The last two deer that I have taken with my bow have dropped in their tracks. The first was a white-tail that I made a heart shot on from 20 yards. He expired just as fast as any shot from a rifle. The second was a shot on a mule deer that hit him in the spine between the front shoulder and the head. That deer also expired instantly. Which was lucky because a spine shot usually requires the hunter to have to take a second shot. And it is usually not humane. I wasn' t proud of that shot though because it wasn' t where I was aiming. I think that hunters should strive for exellence in shot placement and making quick humane kills.

Even the worst of your descriptions is far better than what I' ve seen and see weekly. As a police officer I had to track down and kill wounded deer that have been hit by cars. Nasty, nasty, job. And last year I moved out into the country and have counted 29 dead or dying deer along a three mile stretch of road since September 15th. A spine shot is way more humane than an automobile. And just so you know, we Americans kill more deer with our automobiles every year than hunters do!

Yup two years ago I shot a spike buck through both shoulders and he went right down. I put another in him to end it quicker. But I was shocked he fell right in his tracks.

Well I have had one with a bow, I spined her when she jumped the string, it was weird, she had both her front legs side by side, so when she went down she also went back which caused me to hit the tip of her shoulder blade which put the arrow into her spine. She hit the ground like I had shot her with a 30-30! I had to put a second one through her lungs to finish what I had started.
The other experience I had with spining a deer was with a gun, I did something I will never do again, I neck shot a doe because I did not want her to run because I already had a one mile drag as it was. Well I hit right where I was aiming and she dropped like a ton of lead bricks and never moved. I though " well you don' t get a quicker or cleaner kill than that!" . Man was I wrong, I climbed out of the tree and walked the 100 yards calmly up to her to start the field dressing and noticed she was still breathing! I am thinking there is no way that deer can be breathing, I put it right through her spine! Well even though she was paralyzed from the neck down she sure was, so I put one through her brain and the job was done!
Breaking or shattering a deer spine does not garauntee a quick humane kill and the look in thier eyes as you finish the job haunts you for a long time! It happens sometimes though, and when it does it is our job to finish the job as quickly and humanely as possible.

One buck and one doe, dropped imediately. Not intentional, just not a perfect shot. Cant explained what happened either the deer duck or I misjudged yardage.
