Steve, If you decide to look at a new bow. One of the best sellers is the Diamond Edge. Renamed Razor Edge this year. You should be able to get one in the $280 range, maybe less, and an add on package is available for about $50, Sight, peep, rest, quiver, sling.
Draw length is adjustable from 19" to 29"

Maybe Schultzy likes to be clawed
But seriously, that is awesome that she wants to try it out. My wife used to bass fish with me. I told her I want her to get back into fishing this spring with me and that I really enjoyed our time together on the water.

Yeah, small axle to axle bows are why I switched to recurve. I could only find two that were over 40" and they were $700 and up. One was the Reflex Caribou with a 44" a2a. With her short draw she probably won't need that much. I had been using a bare XI Legend Magnum for 14 years before that.

Serious now...
One of my employee's just bought his son a used PSE (about 8 years old) fully outfitted on ebay for $175 plus shipping.
He had me look it over and appears fairly nice.
I told him to bring the bow up to the archery shop, change the string and tune it. Ready to go for about $300-350!
~ You may want to consider a whisker biscuit for the hunting aspect, as I believe it's one less hinder that could occur
during hunting. Some food for thought...
* I don't want to wreck Shultzy's post, and in turn, to a whisker biscuit topic, it's just my opinion!!
