RE: Good and Bad genetics
Ever since we have lived here it has been the way we said.. now before we lived here i dont know.. but since we have been practing it the numbers of mature bucks have increased alot an its seems to work |
RE: Good and Bad genetics
Who knows, you could find out that if you let those go too, you many have even more big bucks. |
RE: Good and Bad genetics
hmmmmm like iv said what we are doing is working pretty well i mean 150 class bucks for our area is pretty dang big i think.. but ur right before they probably did do that becasue that wud have been along time ago.. lol an most people back then wud of been meat hunters. but still our managment program that we are doing now is working.. so y not keep doing it

ORIGINAL: GMMAT Who knows, you could find out that if you let those go too, you many have even more big bucks. y not keep doing what we are doing by taking out the bucks that we belive dont have the potencial to become a mature pope an young buck.. i mean everdentually what we are doing is working bc every season we are taking bigger an bigger bucks |
RE: Good and Bad genetics
Wouldn't that be the obvious outcome?:) |
RE: Good and Bad genetics
I've tried to see where GMMAT was coming from and it didn't make sense until I read this on another thread.
GMMAT's statement; "Funny thing is....I learn in odd ways. I'll takea position I don't even buy into to play devil's advocate.....and learn probably more from that than I would buying in to all the guys I look up to's mantras ALL the time. " Gmmat you and rybohunter are arguing the fact that any deer can become a big racked deer. Yes that is true....ok we get that, we are not arguing that so get it through your stuborned heads!! We are arguing that we are trying to elevate that chances of getting faster growing racks or bigger racks into our porperties. Will you atleast agree that a 1.5 year old 100 inch deer has a better chance of being bigger at 3.5 years old than a 1.5 year old spike??? If not than you are arguing against genetics intirely. |
RE: Good and Bad genetics
Dispersal, which isthe manner in which most bucks relocate toa new core area at 1.5 years, plays a huge factor in herd genetics and is nature's method of balancing andenhancing genetics and preventing in-breeding. The large majority of 1.5 y/o bucks won't be on the property next season anyway, so "culling" them will have virtually no effect on herd genetics.
