I think there's something we're overlooking. There's a LOT of people who would shoot the spike on day 1, 2, 3 ......of their season.

Nothing wrong with that, at all.

It's like shooting a 110" buck on your last day of an oufitted hunt.....when you KNOW there's 150+" deer on the property. I wouldn't blame the guy who lets that smaller (relative) buck walk. I wouldn't blame the guy for taking him.

No wrong answer, huh?

Absolutely right ...there is no wrong answer ... and it IS interesting to see how many guys would do it the last few minutes of the hunt and not do it the first week or so .... I understand that totally, as I am a meat hunter ...

The spike is going down whether it be the first 15 minutes or last 15 minutes of the season.

It happened to me this year. The big buck was 80 yards away. The spike comes in at 25 yards. He was fat and healthy standing broadside. I thought about it, but I have a let the little bucks grow up rule. No bucks this year. Buck tag sandwich for me. I did get a fat doe earlier in the year.

EDIT- This was the last day of the season, last 17 minutes. SRM

I said I'm shooting. I hope this scenario comes about for me. I haven't killed anything yet this year. This is my 4th year bowhunting and my first without at least one kill. At my lease does are no longer legal I can only shoot a buck with a minimum 13" inside spread or a buck with at least one unbranched antler. So if I even get a chance to go again and spike walks out in front of me, its on!

Jan 4th but it looks like I'll be working most of the days between now and then. I may sneak off for a day or two after Christmas.
