Turkey Feathers for Arrow Fletching
#1
Has anyone ever used Trueflight feathers service of having your feathers from your turkey ground down and cut into useable feathers for fletching arrows. I was thinking of doing this this year " WHEN" I get a bird. I think it would be pretty cool to use arrows with feathers from a Turkey I shot. You can find this info under Frequently asked Questions at www.trueflightfeathers.com
Here is what their website says there are also two pics of what feathers to send and not send them.
I shot a wild turkey. Can you grind it' s wing feathers so I can use them on arrows?
Yes. During the months of November and December for a fee of $15.00 for grinding or $25.00 for grinding and die-cutting we will process up to 50 feathers per person. This includes shipping back to you.
Please send only the 5 or 6 " pointer" feathers from each wing along with your check and instructions. Any feathers unsuitable for grinding will be returned to you. The 50 feathers can be a combination of both right wing and left wing. Please separate them in the package you send us.

Or you could do it yourself.
There is a cool article on this very subject in the June issue of Bow Hunting World. I' m going to try it. Of course I have to get a Turkey first.

jsager make sure you only send them the pointer feathers from the bird, they can only use those feathers. True-flights website has more info on what you need to send them. I think it would really cool to shoot a deer during archery season while using feathers from a turkey I shot. And you can' t find naturally barred feathers now a days, but with wild turkey feathers you have that, so double bonus.

Main feathers on the ENDS of the wing, alot of times these feathers are damaged do to " strutting" or " draging" their wings during the breeding season.
You can save some money by doing it yourself, just lay the feather down on a cutting surface, so the feather " bows" , or " arches" up, then take a sharp knife and cut down the center of the " spine" of the feather, ,Now you have 2 feathers. Trim to length and your done. Modern glues work fine. You can die color them also>
Try it, its fun to do it yourself and cheaper, good luck.

Wow, talk about one sided. I shoot both, plastic do have alot more advantages than what they mentioned, anybody ever hunt in the rain, then you know what I' m talking about with feathers.

Hey Phil if you go on Tru-flights website and look under Frequently asked questions and you will see the text I posted above with a diagram of what feathers to send and which ones not to send.
