Confused with Lansky Knife sharpener???

Confused with Lansky Knife sharpener???
I know this probably dont belong here, but im not sure where to exactly put it??
Anyhow my problem... I have used a standard Lansky 5 stone set for years and have always been able to get them crazy sharp. Then last year I got a Diamond 3 stone Lansky set and I cant get a "good" edge on any of my knives to save my life??
I always seemingly "wipe the edge away" with the diamond's then find myself starting ALL BACK OVER with the standard set???
What am I doing wrong here?? I know somebody can help me!!!!
Buck and Schrade knives...25deg angle! I have tried sharpening with the Lansky up and down method and with regular old style swiping of the blade!!!!
I know that if the standard works then why go away from it, but it just doesnt make sense to me??????
