You are right Steve and guys. The MN DNR has been very helpful..they told me that there are some 150" and much bigger deer in the area, with a 230" NT killed this year, There are 4000-6000 acres of public hunting land in the area I will be. The Mississippi river is a fertile area for huge deer, with NE IA just across the border. I will probably do a little trout fishing too in IA as MN trout season is closed. I have alot of experience in NE IA so I know what the area is like and how huge the timber tracks are up there in SE MN. The DNR said if I want to I can hunt areas that no man has proabaly been on all season...the timbers are huge.

HCH,
There are some big tracts of timber down here that is for sure. Unforunately I'd be suprised if you find timber that hasn't been touched all season. There is a large asian population that comes down from the twin cities and shoots, and shoots, and shoots on public land. Honestly very few squirrels left on public land because of it. They also seem to know where every little piece of public land is hidden. I'm not joking here, if your on some public land and hear the .22s start blazing, I would move for your own safety.

At any rate, there are some dandy bucks down here and you don't need to be on private land to take them. Couple that with you being here the best possible week and you should do quite alright I hope. There is another guy on here from Michigan that is going to be hunting the area the same time as you.
