I went alot of years before I got my first bow kill. I started when I was 13 and only went on weekends during my school years through high school. I missed a few with buck fever and inexperience. I learned alot about playing the wind, picking ambush spots, and getting close was a skill i was honing. After I settled in to my career and new familily I started back up in my early 20s. I practiced often and read anything I could get my hands on about bow hunting. Then I had success, a doe. I continued to shoot does and gained alot of experience in calming my nerves at the shot, blood trailing, shot angles etc.. It turns out that it is an ongoing learning process thathas to begiven a good dose of practice and determination. Hang in there.

Bowhunters today have a big advantage over where we were 40 years ago. Today we have all these neat videos and TV shows with multiple camera angles and everything. I guy can learn a lot about deer behavior, drawing and shot selection from these things. When I started NO ONE bowhunted. The only thing you ran across wouldn't fly today. All you had was choppy unclear video of Fred Bear shooting at deer flying by at full speed. Yes he killed them. I'm sure he missed a few also.[&:] I think you can also learn some bad habits from todays films. Some of the things they do I just detest at times. Also, they're hunting mostly in lightly pressured unhunted virgin territories a lot. Some of the things they get away with would leave you with an empty meat pole around here.

Its amazing how with modern technology we can learn in hours, really, what took our fathers, grandfathers etc... years to pick up on.

I have never got a deer with my bow. I tagged a roadkill last year just to get some meat.
Hoping to find a fresher one this season. Last years deer was a little smelly.

Good luck to all of you that have not yet got a deer with a bow. Its a great feeling when you finally get one with a bow. I shot my first deer with a bow at least 12yrs ago and I love bowhunting more then any other type, once you break the ice you will be more addicted then you ever thought.
Good luck this season!

Ha. The pro shop manager told my wife when she went along while I picked out my bow, after he gets his first deer, you'll wont see him anymore during October and November. Good luck.
