Snypers do not lock open. They are exactly the same head that Rage's are only slightly smaller.

I volunteer to teach hunters safety course in NY. The reason I was given by a DEC official who trained the trainers for the safety course was that a barbed head with blades at an angle less than 90 degrees cannot be pulled through the entry as easily as those that are not. They are worried about 2 things, 1 breaking a blade off and the hunter injuring themselves when field dressing, and 2, the arrow won't come out of the animal which can cause multiple things (like death). That is the genesis of the law.
Not that we are trying to do that (cause death)or anything....
But, in any event, that is what I was told and whatto teach.

if you're not sure whether your mechanical broadheads are barbed or not, shoot one into a bag target and try to pull it out.if it slips back out easily with the blades all folded back to the closed position,it's not barbed.if it won't pull back out,and sticks in the bag like a fish hook with it's blades remaining in an open configuration, you've got yourself a "barbed" broadhead!.now imagine that broadhead stuck in a deer not mortally hit and you'll have a clearer picture of the thought proccess behind the law.deer are very capable of removing an arrow with their mouth or by rubbing against trees, but not if it's barbed!.PROTECT OUR SPORT, OBEY ALL GAME LAWS!!.
