I`m sure I`m not the only one here that has shot a deer in the neck.My grandpa raised my moms family on veni (most of which were shot at night and of course out of season) and granted that was with a rifle but a broadhead makes a much bigger hole.
An old timer once told me, that when you "find yourself in a hole " the best thing you can do is "quit digging".

If you guys would actually practice shooting once in a while, you wouldn't have to worry about hitting a 4 inch target at 20-30 yards...a neck shot will deer every time.

Well I don't know about all the sack punching because if it's with a gun then it's a good shot, there is enough shock to put a deer down in it's tracks if you know where to put the bullet..

But... With a bow... Bad idea...

It`s pretty sad that people think they can hit a heart and not a neck shot.
Granted the forgiveness is greater on a missed heart shot but you shouldn`t be missing to begin with.
I`ve seen alot of pics on here of gutshot deer and it sickens me but I don`t complain-to each his own I guess.

JLA. I see your future. I see, I see, miles and miles of tracking only to lose more deer than you harvest. Unless of course your following in familyfootsteps and your BH is an 06 or 30-30. Good luck in your future endeavours. I would have no part.
By the way I have done neck shots with .30-06 and with .50cal ML....... its still not a guarantee. One of these days I should tell you the story of the bobblehead deer. PM me and I will give you the details. [X(]

The first two deer I shot were in the neck with a 30-06. Why? I had noone to teach me how to hunt really and the guy who I borrowed the gun off told me to do so......I NEVER once shot a deer in the neck again after I started reading books and magazines and educating myself. I would NEVER shoot a deer in the neck with a bow.

You can't be serious? If you are, you 100% need to get your butt to a basic Bowhunter Education class to. No joke.

The spinal cord of a deer is about the thickness of your pinky finger. The carotid artery and juglar vein are wayyyy smaller than that.
Do you even know EXACTLY where those "targets" lie within the neck?

My God.

The quit digging comment was pretty accurate it seems.

It seems to me when a shot is fired, the head and neck are the first to react. With such a small margin for error, I think it would be silly to try it intentionally with a bow. As far as the neck shot with a gun, I have never lost a deer when it was hit in the neck, never had to even track one. I have, however, lost deer or had to track deer shot in the vitals.Have to say I like a neck shot with a rifle.

The deer i shot last year had an arrow stuck in its neck (not my own).

Need i say more??

You can practice all you want brother but this sport is not archery, its bow hunting, and when your bowHUNTING stuff happens, you may look through a twig and not see it, causing a small deflection, or you just may pull off a bad shot. I know were not all as perfect as you but come on, you owe it to the deer to go for the highest percentage shot.
