what is the best size tree for a 2 man ladder stand.
i took a smallsapling and pulled it around the tree i want to hang my stand on it went just under half way around the tree about 6 feet high.
and the sabling was 24inchs long. is 24 inchs half way around big enough.
The tree i had it on last year let the stand move side to side when i would move

Tim, we can't have that!!! The tree needs to be large enough to provide support on either side of the "teeth" of the stand.

COMMON SENSE!!!!!

Dont feel bad. I had the perfect poplar and set up and climbed. It was a fat, straight up with no limb kind of tree. I had my climber maxed out with pin adjustment and by the time I got to where I wanted to hunt, my platform had a 25 degree downward slope.

I need a solid mature tree I can barely wrap my hands around to strap. Its better off when you dont sway with the wind...I can only imagine a double ladder.

With a ladder, I like a tree 18-28 inches in diameter or so, at the height you will be at...Like turkey hunting, a bigger trunk helps hide you...

Hoyt...On a tree like that, if you really want to climb, add 3-4 screw in steps and adjust the climber higher up the tree, use the steps to climb in...Poplars are great soft trees for a climber...

A tree15 inchesin diameter should hold it if it's installed and braced properly. You get a lot of torgue from a two man ladder. Really, it would be better if you had a double tree or two trees close together and wedge the stand into the other tree as you lash it to the one. When you get that puppy all tied down I like to go down and grab the bottom rung or two and pull it out from the tree as far and hard as I can. This leverage really tightens things up. Then bounce on the bottom rungs to drive it into the ground so it can't move in. Sometimes(usually) you got to add a good ratchet strap at the top to hold things in place. Even then, you have a lot of leverage if you get all the way one side or the other.

We usually have atleast 2 ratchet straps on all of ours.

Also, a trick my uncle showed me (don't know how to really explain it)-- The support brace that is about midway up the ladder and attaches to the tree...usually they come with a string/rope to tie around the tree. Put a piece of metal or a good heavy stick in that rope, and TWIST it. That will REALLY cinch that brace to the tree and that ladder won't budge a bit!!!
