Nice gutshot, Andy!

I watched the show also. I did not care for it. It did not reflect us hunters in a good way, in my opinion. The animals he harvested all seemed to die a little to slowly in front of the camera. Maybe my opinion is this way due to some personal battles I'm dealing with, but I didn't like the show. Did anyone else get this feeling? If not, disregard this and I will assume it's just me.

He made a bad decision. He took a bad shot.
I'll argue the shot was legal, and lethal.....just not very "ethical" (IMO).
You hunt legally and ethically....and I'll congratulate you and take your kill photos. I'd argue "quartering-to" shots (if you saw this one you know) like the one he took offfer ONE outcome.
Gutshot.
Jim....you can try and stir the pot all you want. I've held to my position that I'll defend any man's hunting....as long as he's doing so legally AND ethically.

I'm going to have to agree with Jeff, on this one. Although- I do see what point BAW is making.
On one hand, a 'quartering to' shot is not the ideal shot. Too many variables, too little vitals. As hunters, we should strive to ethically harvest our quarry, and only, ETHICALLY.
One the other hand, the shot was legal and so was the hunt(as far as we know), so we should show support to the fellowhunter.
Now, constructive criticism should be practiced by all !
I took ONE quartering too shot in my life. I recovered that deer, hours later. I will never, ever take that shot again, EVER.
Here is why: when I found that deer, she had expired, but- she was laying down like a bedded deer, not like one that 'crashed'.
What that told me is that she layed down, suffered and then expired. I have so much love and respect for wildlife- I was almost brought to tears.
This point can and likely will be argued until we are all blue in the face. Just remember, we owe it to our quarry to make only ethical shots.

I've take 2 quarter-to shots and one head-on. The head-on was moreorless out of self-defense, the 2 quarter-to's were well calculated and resulted in dead deer on in a short 18yds blood bath, the other ran 130yds to her death bed. Both were dead in less than 10seconds, both WERE ethical shots that I took knowing my abilities, taken at 11 and 18 yds. away. There is a time and place for everything, if Andy made the shot and recovered the animal even though it was a marginal shot, I say kudos to him, showing it on TV though ain't gonna get a kudos. And if he takes the same type of shot again and loses an animal, then he needs to do some re-thinking.

I don't think he recovered the goat. They didn't show the recovery and he made no mention of recovering it. I would think if he had recovered it he would have shown the goat on film. Should not have aired the segment the way they did. All the segments they aired on that show today left a little bit to be desired. I turned to something else half way through.

Did he Recover the Goat? Perhaps he knows his limitations and the actual scenerio unfolded slightly different than was filmed, angles can be deceiving.
Shouldn't we give the successful hunter, congratulations and not second guess his every instinct?

Are you for real. You say its legal and LETHAL but not ethical. Ummm I don't understand.
One question? Are you that great of a hunter to say you have never made an unethical shot in your life?
OH....I'm guessing this shot was 40yds or more.....downhill on a 30deg (or more) angle. If Andy's practiced that shot......I'd be surprised. If he has.....to quartering to animals....I recant. That shot (with the animal at the angle it was) had one possible outcome. Gutshot. He hit that mark.
My only issue is the decision he made before he decided to shoot. Poor shots will happen to everyone.

Did you see the angle? Let's just say it's one I don't think Andy had been practicing. I congratulate him on his success

Well I know you're not talking to me so I don't feel singled out.
The only moral high road I think these folks owe "us" (the bowhunting, viewing public) is to set a good example. That's it.

How many non-hunters are watching hunting shows
Go out and ask the first person you know(not lisa
) who does not hunt, and ask them about Andy's shot.
We are harder on our own 99.9% of the time, does anyone really think a person who does not hunts cares what we do?
Go ask a few, ask them about a qrt to or away shot, see what they say
For those who say "Anti's care" well who cares[:-] They hate hunting period.
EDIT
Sorry mis-took viewing public as public. Still a good post
