I usually see a buck or 2 out of velvet by the last week in August but I have seen them in velvet the opening week of our bow season, Sept 15th.

In my area in Michigan the velvet transition starts on Sept. 3rd and runs until about the 9th. And its all off...at least thats what my cameras tell me.

Saw one lastnight whileI was fishing out in the Jackson County Forest area with velvet hanging....it was a decent 6 pointer.

Still fuzz heads here in NY but they should be starting in the next week or so. I saw a Stud the other night working a licking branch and starting to paw up the ground so I'm sure with the cool nights it will be anytime now
