Being relatively new to bowhunting I have a question I have been struggling with during practice.

What technique, if any, do you use to ensure the same anchor point every time?

I've been struggling with this lately and figured I'd ask the pro's

I anchor the knuckle of my index finger in the "crease" between my ear and jawbone and then touch the tip of my nose to my bowstring. No kisser button, just a peep.

I'm darn sure not a pro but I'll answer anyway. When I come to full draw ...

1. Check my grip
2. Put my index finger knuckle right under my ear lobe
3. Bring the string across to the center of my nose
4. Cock my head just enough to center the sight guard ring in the peep
5. Double check level
6. Concentrate on target and puuuuulllll back .... WHAACK

As a beginner, you should definately use a kisser button. It's easy to find your anchor when you practice in the back yard, but if you're in a tree stand in a real hunting situation, the last thing you want to be thinking too much about is your anchor point.

I usea kisser button, make sure the string is in the center of my nose and my blazers are just barely touching the side of my chin.

I started out with a kisser button, last year I went without, and this year I'm back to it. 3 or 4 fps is a small price to pay for not having to think about my anchor. Many people, like Sooner State Hunter and NCRemington700,are just as comfortable w/o a kisser. The most important thing is that you can find the same anchor everytime and find it quickly.

For me it’s a kisser, peep and nose to the string. After a while it becomes automatic and you don’t even think about it, but I still like having that safety factor.

This is all you need to know. If you do these three things the same EXACT way each time, you'll be good to go.

Hello, I too have been lurking here alot but posted little. How are you shooting (fingers or release aid?). With a compound shot fingers I usually anchor first finger in corner of my lip (if you are a beginner, you may want to use a kisser). I don't use a peep but it can be alot more consistent w/ much less practice that way. If you are going traditional (longbow/recurve/self bow) I anchor close to my eye. Instead of your first finger being your anchor, I use my ring finger. This in-turn brings the nock closer to my eye. If you shoot w/ a release aid I can't help you much though. EI hit the main point on the head though, how ever you do it-it must be the same each time.

No Kisser......yet

Im practicing at 35 yards and it just seems like 3 outta 4 shots are good but that 1 tends to be either 6 to 8 inches High or Low. Im sure its the anchor point because I am getting to the point where I can almost tell just by the peep view if its gonna be an errant shot.

I think Im gonna work on establishing a good anchor "routine" like Sooner State suggested.

With all the things to consider, I'll prolly be ready to take my game to the woods in 2012!!!!!! LOL
