The same here. I would love a buck but a doe with a bow is still a wonderful experience. Given my wife and I have several small children, I'm finding less time to hunt these days so I make more of it. Couple that with the new one deer bag limit for pretty much the lower half of the state and I'd take a fat doe on opener versus waiting for a buck two months later.

Well, I'm thinking of starting a new trend....... The Big Doe Club. For comparrison, we'll measure their teats! What do you think.......length and circumference for all four?

Back to the original question...
Why do we have the Olympics?
Probably because human nature breeds competitiveness, that would be my guess?
Bucks happen to be standard of measurement for most hunters.
Kind of like the Mustang or Camaro or Charger being a muscle car, but when you get into a Corvette, THATS a muscle car.
Corvette is the big buck!

I am a big buck addict. That is just the stage I am in during my hunting career. I love to shoot big bucks. When I was younger I would shoot any buck as long as it had horn on its head it was dead. But at that time in Tn that was all you could kill was bucks. You were not allowed to kill hardly any does. I think it was something like you could kill 18 bucks and 3 does during the deer season. It was that way up tell about 8 years ago when TN went to only 2 bucks. Now in my unit you can kill 3 bucks per year and 3 does per day all season long. Know that TN has a very good mature buck population that is all I care to hunt. I also have no problem taking does out for management purposes and meat in the fridge. I also consider taking a mature doe a very big accomplishment. Every time I go out these days I could kill a young buck just about. They are just not what I am after and they are not what satisfies me will I am hunting as I like a challenge on killing a mature deer weather it has 130 or 160 inches doesn't matter to me as long as it is mature. JMO

Its not just big bucks. i believe we are raised in this society to want everything bigger and better. i mean its he same thing everywhere we go.....bigger better truck, better technology on our cell phones, appliances, computers, clothes, everything we buy has to the best we can "afford".

I know of SEVERAL guys, here, who shot over their limit on bucks, last year. I know of one who shot EIGHT (or maybe even more) over. He wasn't killing monsters (by anyone's stretch), either.

If you are saying they just shot a heck of a lot of deer (probalby more then they could eat) but it was legal disregard what was written up above
to the question:
no different then kids in school having to be with the "in" crowd. Horn porn sales, look at the shows on TV. Eastman, whitetail freaks, drury, realtree, etc, etc, etc.....how many of them shoot a spork, or a fork, or even a deer that is 2 years old? people see that and want to be like that, human nature. is it right, wrong, bad, good.....who knows, but if it is legal, does it matter?
me personally i just like to eat deer, period. in CA we can take 2 bucks a person, no does. so i do my best to take 2 bucks.
i will say that some people like a challange, that is who they are. so killing a forky is not as much of a challange as a 6 year old who they have seen once in their life on their special farm property. it is a since of accomplishment, i suppose.

I bowhunt for the enjoyment. When i'm sitting in the stand and a Deer comes by, buck or doe, at that moment i will decide if its the deer i want to harvest at that particular moment. My mood changes day to day. I will (god willing) take a few does this year, and a buck....but the size of the buck won't be determined until that one morning or evening sit when presented with an opportunity and i decide to take it or not. If its sizeable..great.. if not, and i decide to harvest it, i consider myself successful either way.

I am still recently new to hunting religiously and see a good amount of deer. However I do not get the chance to take alot of bucks. The biggest I have ever seen in the woods may be a 100 in. so when I get the chance to shoot a small buck I feel a greater sense of accomplishment.
