Default scouting how much does it take

I read a article about how unless you scout day after day for months if not years you will not kill big deer regularly

How much scouting do you guys really think it takes to drop a big deer be it a doe or buck.
Also have you or do you know people that just go find a stand site and set up.

I did that last year not enough time to scout much.
I saw alot of deer but i think i was off the main trail to much

I am usually the type when I get a new area to hunt I go out a scouting until I find a few potential stand locations and not go back because I worry about scenting the woods up. Then when season comes I just pick the stand location I thought looked best in the scouting I done then go from there. I am not one to constantly move around. I had one area I hunted I moved my stand from the original location about 3 times for a total of around 40 yards combined and I have been on that honey hole ever since (about 8 years) I have not harvested a monster there but several smaller 8's and a nice 10 point and several big doe and my share of small ones too. The biggest deer I ever harvested was a 9 point that grossed 147 5/8 with a 21" spread. It was during rifle season and I had no game plan had never been to that area so alot can be said for LUCK!!!

Depends on a lot of factors. Before, I would go to my hunting land a couple of months before the season and get the stands up where I saw signs of heavy traffic. Now, I live on the land I hunt and look for signs and pattern changes on a daily basis. I am always looking for buck tracks and and signs of bedding.

No. Too many factors to make the above sentence legit. However, the basic premise of the sentence still rings true. The more you scout and know about the land you hunt, the greater chance you have at taking bigger deer.
