It does depend on where you anchor. For some the straight down may be a 30 others a 40. I've practiced it enough I just hold off with the 20. Broadside at two yard from the ground... I just draw and shoot. It's a feel thingy.
My closest was 7 feet... no aiming needed, for me anyway. It's instinct.After the first 30 years or so of bowhunting you'd be surprised at how good you can be just drawing and feeling the tug against you and knowing what the arrow will do. At that point is draw shoot out for some distance. If I did it all the time I'd get rid of the damnpins.

If the deer is directly beneath you and you are going to shoot straight down. Why would it matter if it was broadside or not. Wouldn't it be the same shot?
I set it up exactly how I intended....to get the answer I was looking for.

Left-right i.l.o. North-South. North-South gives you a larger (mentally) margin for error. Boradside (i.e. left-right) makes you pick a side of the spine and fire.

Wouldn't you have to pick a side of the spine (unless you were aiming directly at the spine) whether he was facing directly away, directly at your tree, to the left or to the right as long as he was standing directly under you?
If you pick a side of the spine (him facing N-S)...then it wouldn't matter WHICH pin you chose, really (speaking in terms of trying to illustrate my point). We're only talking about 3-4 inches off, here, anyways. So......you hit 3-4 inches further back. If the scenario is how I described it.....those 3-4 inches mean a LOT more.
Like I said....I set it up exactly how I wanted to to get the answers I was looking for.
