Default what the closest you take a deer to your stand

How close is too close ? I have taken them almost directly underneath but it is not a comfortable angle to shoot from and if you are not careful can have an impact to your anchor point - I now wait and prefer a shot 10-20 yards

I agree Bark....I like them outside 10 yards when hunting a tree or elevated. I have taken two deer off the ground at almost point blank range (inside 5yds) out of the DB....That was really neat...they were right in front of the thing...

Its hard to beat a ten yard shot ,they don't have much time to duck.

I'd rather have them 30 than 15.

I prefer shots between 15-30yds.....Anything within 15yds I'll waitfor the deerto move unless I think they're about to bolt. Only on a couple occasions have I shot under 15yards.

4 yds is about as close as I'll shoot. Give me 8-12 yds all day long.

I've made quick decisions and shot them at 5 yards and I have shot them at 30! I prefer 20 it makes for a good shot!

3 yards, just aim a bit farther back to avoid hit where the shoulder blades meet the spinal area. This is tough to penetrate. A very close shot with a large cut mechanical will kill them dead and quick. I wouldn't take this shot with a small cut fixed head though. Don't cause enough damage to one lung and can loose them.

I like em up close and personal. I can't remember that last shot over 20 yards and most were under 15. I take longer shots on turkeys than I do deer.
