RE: "Forget the wind.....Just hunt"

Good stuff Greg I think that is a great plan for hunting big bucks. I only shoot does in the early season where it's either over populated or where I don't see any bucks or sign of them. Also, Dan, I sometimes have to hunt a stand no matter what b/c I don't have everyday to hunt and I don't a get a chance to hunt my bigger woods until Sat. I go when I can and I go to the places that are producers, I do try to heed the wind if I can, but if I feel that it's safe to hunt it, I do. It may not be , but I have to take the chance rather than sit at home.

My motto about this situation is......if it ain't broke.....don't fix it.;) YOU are the greatest arbiter of your woods.
Agreed. You still didn't answer my question though. Do YOU right now know what tree you will be sitting in come opening morning?

Honestly no. I'll be using a different weapon.....and that'll determine a lot of it. My goals with it are different than with the compound. If there's a spot I think I'll have success (success is based solely on taking "A" deer)with it.....and I might not would go into with the compound......I'll go in there......wind be damned (to an extent).

I know where I wanna go.....because I know there's more deer in there than other places. I also know it'll have PLENTY of time to 'cool down". I'll roll those dice if I think I'll have a greater chance of success in that spot wiht that weapon.....at that time of the year.

So.....exact spot? No. Can I tell you right now.....between 2-3 spots? Yeah.;)

Yes I do. I will be right on the edge of a bedding area. It doesn't matter which way the wind is blowing by me they come from 360 degrees. I do alot of scent control. It should be a good morning.

Gotcha. That's about where I am with it too. Will wind play a factor? Yes, but so will the army of stumbleclowns that will be in the woods that day too.;)

Just for clarification.......in all 3 spots I'm considering....I woud benefit most from a N wind.

If I don't have that.....I WILL be hunting one of these spots, though;).

I do have a stand or two that I will ONLY hunt with a certain wind. But most of my stands, the deer can and do come from multiple directions, so in those cases, I just hunt'em... Even if I have a preferred wind.

I will in fact not know the stand I will be hunting come the opener.

At this point.. I really don't even know the land I will be on.

I will take all variables into consideration as the date approaches.. much scouting still to do.

Wind for myself.. is final determining factor.
