RE: "Forget the wind.....Just hunt"
I dont even know what farm I will be hunting yet. Not only because of wind direction, but also what I will have found scouting (from a safe distance with binos) between now and then will dictate where I hunt the first morning, evening etc.
If I think I have a mature buck that I want somewhat patterned, my best bet is to get on him that first day or the first oppotunity thewind is right. Once the woods get all stinked up (if only everyone would spray down and use scent lok-sarcasm:D) and disrupted, his pattern will abruptly change and he may never be seen again by me or anyone else representing mankind.[:o] |
RE: "Forget the wind.....Just hunt"
I don't hunt mornings until late Oct.
If I did hunt opening morning, I wouldn't know which stand I'd be hunting until I knew what the wind was going to be. |
RE: "Forget the wind.....Just hunt"
I hunt mornings in the early season mainly to try and kill does but I understand why you don't like AM hunts Greg until late Oct, man, early season AM hunts can be miserable.

RE: "Forget the wind.....Just hunt"
I know what stands I want to be in (not nessessaraly opening morning, but early season). That being said, there are several wind directions for each of my stands that I will NOT hunt that particular stand with. Makes no sense to be risky and alert deer for me, particularly at the start of my season. For that same reason, I will not hunt some of my spots at all before the last week of Oct.

RE: "Forget the wind.....Just hunt"
I probably will sit in my new stand, as there are a few ways the deer can come from ... I'll justify it that way :D

I won't know until I step outside, that morning, and see which way the wind blowing. Why hunt a stand "no matter what" and risk the chance of messing it up for the entire season?

RE: "Forget the wind.....Just hunt"
I know where I want to be. In the process of figuring out how to get a stand there with the prevailing winds. Of course, just about the time I get the stand down, the wind will not be right and screw me as normal.

RE: "Forget the wind.....Just hunt"
I might not even be I an tree opening day, and if I am, it will likely be above a different hunter looking through a lense. If I am not filming for someone, I will be sitting on a cooler on the edge of a cut corn field dove hunting.
My hunting grounds shrank considerably so I am considering the less is more theory for this year. Likely wont head in to bowhunt till late october through november. If I can find a few more farms to spread out onto I will hunt more often though. |
