"Rob Bucks"....What's the prognosis?
#1
I had a really cool looking "Rob Buck" here a couple years ago ('06 season). He was a good looking 2.5 yr old with a "funky" right side and a perfect 4-point left side.
Last year.....I got photos of a buck, during the summer, (I'll post them in a minute).....and the first thing I thought of was.....it was "him". Later in the summer......he blossomed into a perfect 8-pointer.
So....is it possible the buck who had only one point (main beam...with some trash) in '06 "recovered" into a nice 8 in one antler growing season?
What the prognosis for "some" of these bucks? I'm sure some of them will never recover to have nice, full racks......but....can some fo them make a full recovery?

My first reaction/thought is no, they cant. I only think this from what I have heard from so-called experts on tv where they talk about why deer grow these "Rob buck" racks. Through injury/genetics etc. But I am hesistant in believing they cant make a recovery. You bring up an awesome question, can they recover? I have shot two bucks that are this way, but one I believe was just broken off from fighting, the other is almost identical to what you are showing. I will try and post a pic of the mount later. I hope someone who knows for sure will clear this up for us.
I'd say right now im 90% once they are non-typical they stay that way, cant over come genetics or injury. (Their hospitals arent as good)

Now that's off Jeff. Doesn't look the "normal" side grew any bigger while the odd side was catching up. I've seen a few back home, usually just little dinks though, like a 3-point on one side and spike on the other. Hard to say what will happen. Jim Shockey had genetics for 3 years for big bucks with a giant fork on one side. He had several shows where they would be miles apart from stand sites, and the same style of rack would be showing up. Hard to say if it is just a one year oddity, or a real genetic deal.
