RE: Opinions on Crossbows
I would hate to be your kids, and know that Dad is going hunting, but that He will never take me because he doesn't want me there...... he wants it all to himself..... or what about grand kids ........ you will teach anyone and everyone in your family BUT it is everyone else you don't want out there........ "grab a bow, Bill.....let's go huntin'" Or during the specified crossbow seasons...... Fix: "Grab your crossbow, man.....let's go huntin'!" I'm not selfish because I don't invite my gun hunting friends to come with me during bow season. I might be declared selfish because I don't WANT them to be able to hunt that weapon during bow season.....but we have bag limits and seasons set, weapon-specific for a reason. Anybody thinks that's discrimination.....should move to one of the zones in SC that opens 8/15 for ALL weapons. A sharing man's utopia! |
RE: Opinions on Crossbows
the P&Y club doesn't back me, I don't back them - its a happy deal - start your thread and I'll be there
I read once where the first thing an expert xbow hunter wanted was forbaiting to become legal ,so thenthe way thingssnowballaround here all of the new xbow hunters will become master baiters and I for one don't like the idea.
FACTS guys ........ if crossbows are bad for hunting, negatives to hunting then would be seen in Arkansas, Ohio, Illionois (crossbows are legal for over 62 and handicap there), Indiana (late season), Maryland (over 65) SC (over 62 years of age) Tennessee (allowed in archery season) Virginia (archery legal) or Wyoming (legal) - Texas is crossbow legal too I believe and many states allow handicap use. C'mon guys, IF crossbows are bad, surely ONE of the above states would have been impacted in some way.I know, they aren't PA but not a single reduction in season or bag limits because of them, not a single report of massive overcrowding ..... not once ? Best deer herds and hunting ever .... That tells me there is no boogy man in the closet, crossbows are not a bad thing |

RE: Opinions on Crossbows
Jeff is NC offically called bow season? Or is it Archery Season? I do not know of a state that has "Bow" season.
When Hillary turns ten she will be able to hunt with archery tackle. If I can get her shooting over 35 lbs she will use her bow, if not then we have to wait. If xbows are legal we will be sitting in a blind together hunting with Gramps 10 point Xbow. Again someone please show me data where xbows hurt the herd for deer season? Anyone? Jeff you have every right to write lawmakers at ask for what you did above. I do not disagree one bit. Again like most in this discussion you go right off the deep on. If we start seperating seasons, well you know whatwe should, lets go off the deep end From now on will have Traditional season Cross Bow Compound Gun: Rifle season Shotgun Pistol ML Flint Lock Traditional Those things that are called ML, but shoot better than any shotgun;) Since we cannot share the woods and hunt as hunters, lets make the split. BTW that is how it sounds when folks say, let just hunt with any weapon[8D] |

Where are you going to find 1000 virgins ???;) |
RE: Opinions on Crossbows
I am pretty sure a bunch of hunters said an OBR with AR's would not work in PA also;)
When we stick to the facts and data avaible, there is no argument against Xbows in MI or any other state. Please someone prove me wrong? |
RE: Opinions on Crossbows
lol, give up on 'big d' guys, he has been here, in one form or another, longer than any of you and he would put 'atlas' to shame in the bullheaded department. If you guys keep it up....I am looking for 60 pages come monday.
I still havent seen anything that would change my opinion:D. |

RE: Opinions on Crossbows
alright good point. anywhere we would wouldnt be legal, not in PA anyway! We will make it 1000 women! Hows that? Good looking ones too! shoot....that might even be hard. YOU KNOW WHAT?! Im KING not GOD! You get 1000 women GERM, what they look like depends on how much beer you drink!
Cheer up buddy! every lil thing gonna be alright. |

RE: Opinions on Crossbows
When we stick to the facts and data avaible, I guess what these guys are trying to say is....they'd rather use common sense and foresight.....rather than "take somebody's word for it" from afar. As far as I'm concerned....sitting here at my desk in NC.....I'm not sure it would be a big deal to deny you guys in MI the right to dove hunt. How's that working out for ya? No big deal, to me. (the above was said tongue in cheek. I'd be pissed if I were you;). I love shooting grey rockets) |

ORIGINAL: JoeRE ORIGINAL: Germ When we stick to the facts and data avaible, there is no argument against Xbows in MI or any other state. Please someone prove me wrong? I did a study of Ohio, although states are NOT the same. I looked at the similarties between the two and used data. There is a difference of 2% between the succes rates. We have about200,000 lest hunters in both seasons We have about 500,000 more deer Ohio has OBR MI has two bucks limit last time I looked Ohio had 420,000 gun hunters, MI had 665,000. Ohio has 210,000 archery hunters, MI has 330,000. Both 2 to 1. Ohio right now even with more than half archery hunters using Xbows cannot kill enough deer. If I would have seen negative data for Ohio or where it hurt the herd I would be against it. Jeff is correct states are different, so the law makers in each state need to look atit. Right now in MI we cannot kill enough deer, adding another 50,000 won't hurt IMO. Being the DNR approved of Xbows in MI, I see no reason not to allow them. If the DNR of MI would have stated "Too many deer being shot" or any negative affect on the deer herd I would be against it. |

Germ if a bow company came out with a compound that was 600fps and you could also use a draw lock on would you be for that as well?
|
RE: Opinions on Crossbows
Alright everyone.....He's still really upset about this. I will now have midget wrestling at Germs tribute party! The 1000 women will wrestle in jello for first shot at our buddy. Horseshoe tournament at noon. Everyone gets free t-shirts........as King I know everyone loves free t-shirts! It could say I love Donkey's, we'd still take it because its a FREE T-SHIRT!

Plus it would be too noisy IMO BTW I would not use an Xbow either. I find them too heavy and nosiy. Everyone thinks those who want Xbow wants to use them. I have no desire to use one, I just do not want to deny anyone who wants to hunt. It's happing today, good hunters cannot hunt because of restrictions. |
RE: Opinions on Crossbows

RE: Opinions on Crossbows
Ah, yes. Bowhunting is only for the young and able bodied. Let's see who we can eliminate...
Start off with those broken down old bastards. They've been hunting long enough and time for them to join the spit and whittle club, to spend their final days sitting on the bench in front of Floyd's barber shop. Those soldiers who came home with serious wounds that now prevent them from shooting a regular bow. Too bad, but that's life and life ain't fair. But thanks for defending my right to prevent you from having a life now that you're home. All those guys who fell out of treestands or had a car wreck and can't walk any more. Accident prone birks like that don't need to be out there anyway. Anybody and everybody else who, for whatever reason, can't shoot a hunting-legal draw weight. Go hit the gym you pansies! Yeah, that oughta clear the woods a little bit. All hail the "All for one and more for me" crowd. [8D] |
RE: Opinions on Crossbows
Schultzy I cannot do it. Hey if we lose in MI, we lose, I wrote my letters and express my beliefs. I encourage others to do the same:)
I will say it passed the House 94 yeahs 14 nays and 2 no shows;) Senate is doing a study and they should, if they pass it are only issue is the amazon beast from canada:D |
RE: Opinions on Crossbows
You guys have changed my mind.
I'm moving to Pa and buying an xbow. |
RE: Opinions on Crossbows
I apologize Art, I did not mean to come accross that way. You know me better then that.
|
RE: Opinions on Crossbows
I know, Schultzy. Just I'd give you a jab in the ribs about it.;)
NHL, NBA, major league baseball? You're comparing professional sports with bowhunting, Jeff? I know there's a buttload of wannabe professional bowhunters but really.... [8D] |
RE: Opinions on Crossbows
ORIGINAL: GMMAT Arthur: I petitioning MLB to throw underhanded so I can play and have a decent average. If that goes over....I'm gonna petition the NBA to lower the rims to 8.5' and petition the NHL to play on dirt, since I skate so poorly. You make valid points. Jeff if this ever comes up on a ballot in NC, please write ever congressmen using the above logic, it will be a slam dunk[8D] |
RE: Opinions on Crossbows
It was a poor analogy, Arthur. I apologize.
I'm for getting EVERY hunter who wants to in the woods. I think most states have recognized this....and have made xbow laws that reflect that for those individuals. Ours has. Amended. Have a great weekend.;) |
RE: Opinions on Crossbows
GMMAT
You still live in this utopia.....where you think all states are congruent. When you want to discuss the inland fisheries management strategies of OH and SC with me....we'll talk. Until then....comparing one state to another (with such differing logistics) is aboutthe "same" as saying Pamela Anderson and Marge Schott are both "women". Crossbows are becoming more and more legalized to everyone in general archery season, and its because G&F's are FINALLY seeing there is no boogy man in the closet like P&Y preaches. Until you produce 1 fact to the contrary, you and and all the anti-crossbow zealots will continue to lose support and you will see your states more and more allow them. Gary....that's just it....there can be NO stats or data available.....until it's implemented in that state. Anything you cite from somewhere else only proves it worked in that state. use whats available and make decisions based on that - its what people do -and the facts of crossbows everywhere they've been legalized for everyone says its not a bad move. there is a very very good chance that will continue when they're allowed in PA, a very small chance the 100% consistancy of impact could be broken and it COULD happen, crossbows COULD destroy PA archery season .......... its never happened of course, anywhere, no reason to think it WILL but it COULD and in the same breath realize all the benefits too and the consistancy there PA WILL take the chance on crossbows and its highly unlikely there will be any negatives, and a very very good chance of all the positives Germ if a bow company came out with a compound that was 600fps and you could also use a draw lock on would you be for that as well? Schultzy if you want to regulate technology you HAVE to remove compounds - are you ready to do that ? |

RE: Opinions on Crossbows
You are wrong and misled. EVERY states uses other states data, draws from it, uses them as templates, etc etc from QDM to tag fee's to the way they manage their fish and wildlife. Until you produce 1 fact to the contrary, you and and all the anti-crossbow zealots will continue to lose support and you will see your states more and more allow them. SC has slot limits on Red Drum. What's Arkansas's? Could it be that they judge themselves, individually....based on their own circumstances? Saying PA is like (________) state is ludicrous when it comes to deer hunting. Again....both Marge Schott and Pam Anderson are both "chicks", right? use whats available and make decisions based on that - its what people do -and the facts of crossbows everywhere they've been legalized for everyone says its not a bad move. and it COULD happen, crossbows COULD destroy PA archery season PA WILL take the chance on crossbows and its highly unlikely there will be any negatives, and a very very good chance of all the positives make it legal if you want, it won't impact my bowhunting ANY |
RE: Opinions on Crossbows
Schultzy if you want to regulate technology you HAVE to remove compounds - are you ready to do that ? There are people BigD who should never have a Traditional bow in there hand, thank god they make compounds. |
RE: Opinions on Crossbows

RE: Opinions on Crossbows
We've got disability covered in Texas, Jeff, as long as it's PERMANENT disability.
Let's consider a Texan who simply lives for bow season. Say he breaks an arm or dislocates a shoulder and it's gonna keep him from shooting for a few weeks... if those few weeks make up the month of October, he's missed out on bow season. His injury doesn't constitute a permanent disability, therefore no doctor's letter to keep in his pocket - which is all the permit required here.** So then, instead of being able to get a crossbow so he can go hunting anyway, he gets to sit at home in cold sweats, suffering from the DT's. If he still can't shoot a bow when it hits November, at least then he can get out a crossbow and go play with the orange army. If the .30-30 isn't more appealing, that is... or the muzzleloader, or the shotgun, or the handgun... Personally, I like general season. I can hunt with whatever the heck I want to and nobody can say diddly about it. **Yep, all that's required is a doctor's letter in your pocket describing your condition. Still, a hundred bucks for a friggin' office call to get the dang letter! And then, my doctor charges an extra $35 for a writing a medical letter for anything. ![]() That's a legally mandated extra burden on a disabled person that the general population does not have to bear. I don't know if it's been challenged in court yet, but that is contrary to the guidelines of the Americans with Disabilities Act. |
RE: Opinions on Crossbows
Nope! I don't like the new technology in compounds but the people who shoot them which is the majority of bowhunters are helping me keep my bowhunting rights. There are people BigD who should never have a Traditional bow in there hand, thank god they make compounds. Then why hasn't PA changed to allow them (xbows)? If all states are the same....and they use data from other states to make their rulings on how to handle their natural resources....... We have a bag limit of 2 does/day here....and I can shoot about 200, annually. It hasn't seemed to hurt our deer herds.....so I guess it would be OK to go to Rob's county and do the same. I mean....it's been legalized to nanny-whack here without detrimental consequences.....so let's do it everywhere! Jesus.....that only took 36 pages. I find I gamble more freely with another man's money
thats a good bet any day Neither will PA's stance to NOT allow xbows in their archery season. |
