The wind changes on your setup - Move or stay put?
The windchecker thread got me thinking..............
So you setup in your perfect spot, the wind is good when you climb in the tree...........and all of a sudden the wind changes direction on you. It's now less than ideal.
Do you stay, or move? If you stay, is there a specific reason why?
Just curious.......

Normally I stay put. I'm pretty thorough in my scent control for this specific reason. In my spots I don't have a lot of wiggle room or freedom to move around to a new location without bumping deer or ruining my hunt somehow. So unless there really is a better option, I stick it out. Although if it's late into a morning hunt I may just call it quits and grab some breakfast.

There are too many variables for me to list. How much wind? Which stand, my honey hole? What have I seen from there, what time of day, of year? etc. etc. I really would just have to play it by ear.

I’ll be blunt, if the wind switches I’m not moving if I am up a stand already. If I’m on the ground and I feel I can safely get to another spot without creating more damage then maybe. My winds generally swirl all night (day) long so by the time I’d get down, it would be back to normal. Often times the wind at the car & at the top of the hill are 2 different directions. These hills create a very complex wind system. I can almost never rely on the weather channel to get an idea.

It depends on where I am. If I'm in the riverbottom, I get down and go home. No reason to stay, they can only come from 2 directions anyway, and 1 is MUCH more prevalant than the other. If it switches to the east while I'm there, I get down.
Some of my other spots though, they come from any and all directions, and from what I've been able to conclude there is no perfect wind direction. So I stay put.

It might depend on the time of year and what I'm after. If it's during the rut and I'm after bucks, I'll stay put. I've seen an aweful lot of bucks that had one thing on their mind, and it wasn't me.
