Yes.Sometimes reality is stranger than fiction.A few years ago I had a 9 pointer dead to rights at about 18 yards.I had a little to much finger on my release before I was holding steady on the spot on the buck I was aiming at.A surprise release is most often a good thing but it wasn't in this instance.I was dumbfounded and angry at myself.I didn't realize it at the time but I actually sliced his brisket pretty good.He bounded off, eventually ending up around 70 yards away.He didn't know what had happened. In desperation I grabbed my grunt tube and started grunting to him. When he started steadily coming my way I couldn't believe it.When he got to about 33 yards and would come no further without confirming what he was hearing I put an arrow through his lungs. An incredible range of emotions for one mornings hunt!
How are you going to drop a story like that with out pics?

Yep.. I shot over a doe once at about 35 yards and she didn't really know what happened so she circled around behind me and just about the time she evened up behind me I drew again and put er in the boiler room.. It happens..

Note exactly but...

Last December, I had a large doe group come in one me. I killeda big doe with my first arrow and she fell within sight. A smaller doe took a few bounding steps and stopped within 20 yards of the stand so I shot her and she fell over after running a big circle. The remaining does lingered around my tree and I managed toretrieve the third arrow out of my quiver and then drop it to the ground after it hit two tree steps on the way down. The remaining does scattered taking my(probably) only chance of a bowhunting triple-hat with them.

Our property is loaded with does and my family eats 6-8 deer per year.

this past year actually, although it wasn't the same deer. I had a couple doe come walking in and stop right in the middle of this logging road in the absolute wide open, easy 25 yard layup shot that i've made a million times practicing. So i picked out the bigger of the two and drew back...well needless to say i zipped the arrow right over her back! This was actually the second easy shot i had missed that bow season, and i was so mad at myself, well the two doe only ran about ten yards and stopped and looked back over their shoulder. so while i'm yelling at myself in my head i start hearing crunches in the leaves the direction they are looking. So i get excited thinking their might be a buck following them, but alas its another doe. I didn't really mind though because i needed to redeem myself for the sake of my sanity, so i drew that second arrow back and forced myself to pick a tiny spot behind the shoulder and turned loose a perfect arrow right through both lungs and watched her crash 30 yards later.

Swamp Collie----"So I grabbed another arrow out of my homemade gatorade bottle quiver... "

hahahahahaha!
I had a $60 PSE something (lightning flite maybe???) that I picked up at a pawn shop. It had the big slot style pins.... and it only had one of them! It was miraculous that I happened to buy a 29" bow..... I didn't know they had sizes.... I dropped another $60 at a pro shop (where I would ironically end up working three years down the road) and had them true everything up. My Dad said he had an old release (and he wasn't kidding... this thing is the size of a turkey baster) and he sent it to me in the mail... so that was a freebee. Another $50 at sports authority netted me 6 XX75 arrows and six NAP Thunderheads. I already had camo and a climbing treestand.... but they wanted like $30 for a quiver... NO WAY JACK!!!!

So I pulled out Mr. Leatherman.... lopped the top off a plus sized gatorade bottle..... put some custom made to fit egg crate foam down in the bottom and stuffed the whole works down in a blue Kelty backpack and figured I was nicely equipped. Everybody laughed like hell too.... and I was the only one who got a deer that night... infact, I went back each Wednesday the next three weeks and killed two more deer and a hog.... and I didn't gun hunt for deer for almost four years after that.

Man those were the good old simple days!

What a great post...

Shultzy will like this one....one evening I had a doe come in....at 20 yards and I was hunting with my osage stick bow with flint....I drew back.... shot in the dirt...she thentrotted in a half moon direction around in front of me...I shot again...shot in the dirt!......again in the half moon she was now off to my left...on the 3rd shot at about 18 yards I buried my flint through her liver up into the lungs....the next morning I found her about 50 yards into the corn....what a hunt...!! back in 1995

In 1991..I was hunting state land with my old Golden Eagle Super Hawk Turbocompound (I had 2 arrows in my quiver)...This 8 point started making a scrape at 18 yards..I blew over his back.....he stopped and started making his scrape again...I shot again and blew over his back again...and then he ran to the base of my tree and stopped at 8 yards and fed on some acorns.....out of arrows... I yelled....Get the *^%(*&(^%* out of here!!! I was very upset at my uncle that night....because he told me.....you only need to carry 2 arrows in the woods....Its experiences like this that make the passion burn inside to go back out in the woods....Its 2008 and I'm still missing...and still killing....

Yeah this was exactly how my opening day happened last year. Sitting int he stand at 6:30 am and 2 does came in ...I stood up and grabbed my bow drew back and missed a 20 yard shot. The arrow went underneath her they ran away only 15 yards to stop and feed again. So at 35 yards I shot and connected, but unfortunatelt was not able to recover the deer. I guess I calmed myself down after the first shot to make the second.

no but we call my dad robin hood, he has shot 5 bucks over pope with his bow and every one he has missed and then hit 3 or 4 times, so every year he has to get 2 dozen arrows lol, this year on the bear hunt he was able to shoot the bear 5 times as it was running away, the outfitter was blown away by how fast he could shoot lol
