Callin' all Elk Hunters

RE: Callin' all Elk Hunters
OTC in unit 62 (I am pretty sure anyway) in CO and going to Avon, Montana this year as well. Been hunting elk off and on for 14 years now and I absolutely love it. I just wish it didn't have to be just one week at a time.

I agree with your post craitchky. It is amazing to go out and have them bugle all around you and being in the mountains that they live in. The last two years in WYO they were still bugling during rifle season. The bull pictured above came out in an aspen grove with about 30 cows and calf and I watched them for about 45-50 minutes feed before I even shot. I got caught up in all the action and enjoyed watching them more than killing one. Then it started getting dark so I squeezed one off.
I have had some amazing elk encounters that I will never forget but if what they say is true I think I will like the encounters during bow season even more.

Just drew a New Mexico tag in Gila. First time to apply and first time to hunt elk. The two buddies I am going with have bowhunted elk several years. I am actually swapping a hunt for whitetails. I am sure I will be addicted after trying it once.

Congrats on the draw. I have applied the last two years for Unit 16b with no success. Should be a good year for those that drew New Mexico and Arizona...good spring moisture from what I have heard.
Iowa, huh...deer hunt for a elk hunt in the Gila...nice trade for both of you
