Prejudice - Version 2.0

So today, I'm driving in to work - and this hillbilly guy goes roaring past in his jacked-up rustbucket pickup truck. He's spitting in a Mt. Dew bottle and has a white-knuckle grip on the wheel with the free hand. Pure gasoline is dripping out his tailpipe, and this vehicle hasn't passed an honest emissions test since it rolled off the assembly line.

Anyway, this tard is sporting a camo hat (sitting high with v-fold) - going for the"trucker look."He had some kind of indian dreamcatcher thing dangling from the mirror. Apparently, he thinks he's an indian. To top off the wholeensemble, hisback window was laid out with every possible retardedhunting sticker:
[ul][*]Give 'Em The Shaft (Muzzy)[*]Size Matters[*]Rackaholic[*]Speak the Language (Primos)[*]Lungbuster[*]Deer Prints[*]Turkey Tracks[*]Bear Tracks[*]Rebel Flag[/ul]

This schmuck is like a walking, talking stereotype. I couldn't see him from the neck down, but I'm saying the smart money is on: nut huggers (complete with coin slot),huge gutand dumb hunting T-shirt. At least 2 dui's. 4 illegitimate kids. 2 ex-wives. Collecting disability.

Am I wrong for hoping that he choked on his snuff spit?

So I followed behind him for a few miles, kinda getting a laugh as he weaved through traffic in some kind of huge hurry. Seriously. What is wrong with people? Do you think he even knows that Pennsylvania was a Union state? That we fought against the confederacy? He's headed into acity called UNION-Town for chrissakes. LMAO I doubt it.

...and just as I'm about to dismiss myself as being over-critical of people - a skoal can flies out the passenger's side window and bounces down the road.

Guess I was right. Slimebag.

Am I the only one that does it? Judge people? I'll admit it - I'm especially tough on our fellow "hunters."
Sometime within this past year, I posted this, and we had a pretty good discussion about stereotypes, intelligence, and our fellow hunters. Threads were locked. Soft egos were bruised. Feelings were hurt. Some of you guys said that his Majesty was over-reacting. Surely, he was making too much of a tinymicrocosm of events. Whatev.

Since then, I've been watching. Listening. Taking it all in.

Now, this is directed at nobody in particular, but the more I watch, the more I realize that the stereotypes are all true.

Let's all note the undeniable and unexcusable decrease in the quality of posts here as of late. This forum used to feature some of the brightest whitetail hunting minds in the continental U.S., where I could click through the threads and actually learn things. And if I wasn't learning something, I was at least engorgedby thoughtful, intelligent hunting-relateddiscussion. It was nice to be surrounded by smart people who shared the same interests and passion. Things have gone downhill.

Hear me out.

Over the past year or so, this place has turnedinto a barren landscape ofhorrible grammar, broken spellcheckersand overall mental midgetry. An internet trailerpark, if you will. I feel like the intelligence level of the average post has dropped by 20 I.Q. points, at least. Some of this stuff is just so dumb that it actually sucks at my brain. My brain cells commit suicide when they see some of this crap. Seriously.

So, I challenge all of you to start going the extra mile to bring something intelligent oramusingto the table. We're not looking for National Geographic editorials here, just some semblance of an intelligent being behind the keyboard.

Furthermore, I challenge a lot of our elderstatesmen to try to post a little more regularly andrediscover what it was that made this forum a good place to be, and a great place to talk hunting with the top authorities on the subject.

And bring back Atlasman.

Truly Yours

The King

I agree with this mind set to a certain degree. I think you need to remind yourself that not everybody is a lawer, and that some guys/gals are new to hunting and may have a tendency to ask silly/stupid questions in an effort to learn more about this sport. As far as stereotyping goes, I think fools do that, as looks can be decieving. You (The King)should know thisby now.
It's a good thing people don't judge you by your deer kills, or you could be held in verylow esteem.;)Just "for the record" I think that post about
the hillbilly is hilarious!!:D:D:D

I don't really post here that much, I literally made up a thread about how everyone kinda sounded like a bunch of women and it got deleted within a few minutes.
I'm done here though, I have no reason to post in the all knowing domain of deer hunting, due to the fact that I understand some people may be more intelligent than I.

Mmm....the quality is declining. We have guys starting threads about prejudice, website warfare, and awesome-ness of bowhunting self[8D];). If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem, right:D

Its just the nature of the beast and is what happens to all message boards when they get this large. Back in the day, posts were much less frequent and were actually worth reading. We didn't have 35 newbies trying to see who could get to 5,000 posts the quickest. It was a close knit group of guys that shared the passion of bowhunting. Guys like:

Rob
Rack Attack
Altasman
Arthur P
Matt
MQ1shooter(what happened to that dork? ;))
Silentassasin
Cardeer
Davidmil
Len
Illinois Bow Man
Artic Bow Man
Stealthycat
Buckeye
and many more....

Ahh.. I regress...those were the days....

The King is correct.

This place is struggling mightily for an intelligent string of threads….although today’s scrape discussion was very much in the right direction. Hopefully as the summer progresses, more pertinent topics will continue to surface, but alas we will also get to look forward to about 17 “how do I get on a team” posts. Likely that 5-6 will be on the front page at a single time too. It would be nice if people at least spell checked or even read back to themselves what they type before hitting the submit button.

I’m not touching the stereo type part….something about if you can’t say anything nice….

OK, King Window-Licker. Why not you be the first to come up with an "intelligent" thread? Instead of a pile of useless info, why not tell us something interesting?

Well?

Jeff (early-in), we're not talking about the "I'm new - help me learn how to hunt" genre of posts.

My beef is with the conspicuous absence of some of our former esteemed colleagues, as well as the deteriorating quality of posts from our more regular posters. I feel like a lot of our best, most entertaining and informative postersaren't posting so much anymore(and I know this from some private discussions I've had). Now I'm not sure if they've just been squeezed out by some of the new guys, or are just sick of the mentally deficient discussions that have seemed to rule the day around here lately... But either way - His Majesty demands change.

I understand that not everyone is Mark Twain, but come on. I can easily see past some typos and grammatical errors, as long as the subject matter is interesting. But the fact of the matter is that it has been slowly degrading over the past year or two, almost to a point where it's no longer worth our time to read the board.

I know I'm not going to change the world here, but I'm just asking that if you don't have anything interesting to say, then don't say it. Conversely, if you do have an interesting topic or comment on your cranium - then don't be shy about posting it.I know we have some readers out there who have a lot to offer, andI welcome a little new edge to the dailyroutine.

When you hit the OK button, you should ask yourself: Does anyonereally want to read what I have to say? Is it thoughtful? Is it informative? Is it useful? Is it entertaining?

If the answer is no - then please do us all a favor andspare us the agony.

First: Thanks for the support, gentlemen. I knew this wasn't falling on deaf ears.

Siman - you're def not one of the guys making dumb posts. Actually, I've always thought you were a pretty sharp kid. You even punctuate correctly. Duly noted. ;)

And yes - I did say that I learn a lot from this forum. The "learning" though, has slowed to a trickle. And there's also a lot to be gained by researching things before you post - and learning that way. When I say I "learn" - that's one way that I do it. Not just from reading the posts, but I learn just as much from making them.

Stick around here kid. This place needs more peeps like you.

While I'm on a full-scale rant:

Did you ever see the Seinfeld episode .......where he and his girl had the nicknames for each other? You know.....the "You're a shmoopie". No....YOU're a shmoopie"? And on....and on....and on......

THAT is what this board has turned into. You have 15 brain-dead dipwads screaming that back and forth, disguised as informative hunting intelligentia. It's like driving a butterknife through my temple.

And because I feel like being really candid - something else that's really rubbed me wrong over the past few years:

If your taxidermy bill is bigger than your property tax - you might want to re-evaluate your priorities.

There was no category that I wanted to select.

While there are many useless posts appearing rather frequently, there are stillsome good ones showing up. It is not hard to weed through the BS and find the good ones. The sad part is that a lot of people seem to bypass the good, informative posts and keep the useless ones at the top. This causes the good posts to quickly disappear to the pages beyond.

Sometimes even "The King" is guilty of this! [:-]

X3

For a moment, let's examine some of the most commonly revisited and hotly debated topics on this forum recently:
[ul][*]Rage broadheads and their merits and/or shortcomings[*]Location[*]Antler size vs. maturity[*]Nannywhacking young vs. old[*]QDM, to practice or not to practice?[/ul]
I know there are more, but let's look at these for a moment. Of these topics few have merit for learning the ways of the wary whitetail buck, the trophy bull elk, the mature boar bear, or the cagey longbeard. Yet they dominate the board and are rehashed in various forms over and over. Some of which actually ostricize some of the more knowledgable members that have a lot to offer the rookie and seasoned veteran alike.

Take the oft debated "Location" thread for example. All it serves to do is to justify the reason why some are not harvesting trophy class bucks. While you can't shoot what isn't there, there is no reason to beat this subject to death and it always turns into a debate of "if I lived in X state, I'd have a wall full of 150's too." My ass. Some of these guys could kill monster whitetails in Grand Central Station, yes they are that good. However, foolish pride leads some to argue with them and try to discredit them to the point where they don't post because it is not worth the trouble.

This seems to happen every few years on this board. It happened several years ago where there were several know-it-all members that pissed off some of the long-time great posters so bad that they simply left. I myself took about a 2 year hiatus only checking in to congratulate people on their successes.

It seems this is the path we are on again and that it is cyclic. Hopefully come fall the great posts will come up again and our brains will be filled with loads of useful gems to take to the woods with us. Or maybe we'll all be sitting in our stands pondering if Rage broadheads are good or bad.[&:]
