Speed , KE, or Momentum?

I never thought these 2 variables were that mutually exclusive. Eeking out a few FPS is probably moot when comparing the KE differences. And vice versa.
That said, I like momentum. Give me a lil heavier arrow going a lil slower and I'm fine. My shots aren't normally very far, I want all the momentum I can get to drive an arrow into the vitals from any angle I need to.

Hey Lar, you're a man's man, shooting 80lbs!! What do have, like 5 man cards? jk

With that kind of KE, you could take a damn rhino!

He heard there were hippos and rhinos on the loose in his woods, lol.
I like KE. I shoot better when my arrow is around 285 ish, idk why. Ill recheck my numbers, but I think I am upper 70s in KE and mid 280s in speed. My arrow is just under 500 grains, and doesnt break when shot into the concrete floor from 5 feet...trust me, ive accidentally tested it.[&:]

Neither, I want momentum. Regardless of how fast your bow is different weight arrows will normally fall in the same KE range providing you don't change the draw length or draw weight. The difference between a lighter faster arrow and slower heavier arrow has more to do with momentum than it does KE. The Heavier arrow will carry that energy farther, where as the lighter one bleeds off energy faster.

I would have to say speed, but I think 280 fps is plenty fast enough with my 403 grain arrow. I like a balace of speed and KE. If you look at the numbers, heavier arrows don't providemuch more KE. It is usually less than 5% so becareful how much you trade off with those heavy arrows.
here is a good calculator to determine KE, arrow drop and momentum

I polled for KE, as the only reason I would need to know the speed is to figure the KE.....AS said before momentum is what I look for (which kinda goes hand in hand with all of them). I tend to adjust the weight of my shafts to get the most everything I can out of that bow.I have always went with a little heavier arrow (weight tubes) versus the light weight arrows, yeah you loose a little speed but you dont have arrows penetrating the sheild of a hog barelyan inch...(One of my buddies done this back in the day with some light easton acc's that he normally used on the 3-D course). I have light arrows but they don't get used except on the 3-D range and I use them there for speed (flatter trajectory), less error....I don't use anything in a hunting situation less than 400gr....
