I just lost one of my dogs Tuesday. I was moving the racecar and it was on the trailer and all the dogs sleep around it and me and my dad thoughtthey had all ran out but the one didn't and it killed him. It was a sad day and i cried liked a baby. And like you said blood, there was many times i was out hunting and they followed and i had to go back and put them in the house.
Here's a pic of him. We called him stubby because all the when he was little all the dogs at the kenel chewed his tail off. He's the one on the bottom looking up

One of the worst injustices is how great dogs are, and how we only have just a very short time period to spend with them.
Dutch... my 2.5 yo male swamp collie.

Trying to chew his way out of the box.... strange animal.... very strange....

All of you have posted some great pics. of some beautiful dogs. My heart goes out to you Dan. It is never easy to handle a loss like the one you have experienced. I don't care how tough you are, you get attached to your dog almost like you do to a child. Our yellow lab, Scotch, just turned 10 and he and I have made a lot of memories in the field over the years. I can't help but think that the day is coming where he won't be with our family, I can't even imagine it. I am truly sorry for your loss.

I feel horrible, even 5 years after I let my wifes dog out the front door and he ran straightinto the road and a truck hit him right in front of us. She cried for days and to this day I feel like a piece of crap forthat. She wasso attached to that dog too.
I now have a 4 year old chocolate lab, he's great! We call him our son becausewe do not have kids. But one thing I learned from past dogs getting run over is build them a pen, a big pen. If you build them a big pen, they will not try to dig out either. I use 5 ft. wire, 4" x 2" squares. Build it big, like an acre or even more. Its several hundred dollars up front but its a good investment. When I walk out my back door, I step right into my dogs pen. I know he could die of something in the future but it sure as heck won't be from a car.
Your new pup will be a great companion, like all labs

Thank you all, and again more great pics of some beautiful animals. I knew it was just a matter of time before he met his demise. Arthur was starting to kick his butt in his older years and the summers were getting harder on him. Where he was ran over was 3.5 miles from the house. Me and the wife had driven seperate to my daughters ball game, we came home through a small town 3.5 miles from home, i got home about five minutes before she did. She calls me and said you aint gonna believe it but Boomer is in town. We live way out in the country. She hauled him home and said he was chasing a chocolate lab in heat. I locked him up for a day and a half before letting him out. He dissapered again but we could not find him for the next two days. The third day me and the kids were back in town looking for him. Word got out to the local sheriff, he flaged me down and was the bearer of bad news about him getting hit. seems a guy was walking his dogs late at night and found him in the hwy half paralized, they were going to take him to the vet but got to feeling around on him and could feel his back was broken and he had no feeling when touched. After contacting the sheriff they put him down. The man was nice enough to haul him out in the country wrap him in a blanket, and bury him at 1.00 am beside a tellephone pole. He had tears in his eyes when he told me what happened and showed me his grave. A better person couldnt have found him
I thanked him for doing the right thing.
