What's "Fun", to you?
I hear it so much when I read the forums.....people saying that their goal is to only "have fun" when asked about their expectations for the upcoming season(s).
Is it beyond the realm of possibility that what might be "fun" for one person.....could be construed as "hectic"....."work".....etc... to the next hunter? People's buttons get pushed in different ways. Some people need a challenge. Some people need to relax. Neither is wrong. To some.....a "fun" round of golf is drinking beer with their buddies and not caring what they actually shoot. To others.....they get their "fun" from practicing every day....entering tournaments....and competing on the highest level they can. Challenging themselves. To some....hunting is "fun" when they set no goals. They take what the woods gives them. It's relaxing. No pressure. Others.....they put pressure on themselves to attain certain goals....and they play off these challenges to define "fun" for them. It's two different mindsets....with neither being wrong. What is "fun" to you? |
RE: What's "Fun", to you?
For me, fun will be getting my brother on his first deer this fall. Once that happens, my hunting fun will be working to achieve the goals i set. Granted i wont shoot a deer every time i take the woods, but i have fun just seeing animals and putting myself in a situation where i could see a "shooter" be it a doe or buck.

RE: What's "Fun", to you?
To me, fun i just hunting I guess. I love being in the woods, up in the tree. About the most fun for me is when deer/critters come by and have no idea you are there. Almost like you are spying. I'm not going to jerk anyone's chain here and say the kill isn't part of it, because it is. There is nothing like coming out the woods after getting a deer and calling friends and my brother. That to me is fun. |
RE: What's "Fun", to you?
Good question Jeff. To ME, fun isanticipating the season (Pa & Alberta), being on this forum conversing with differentfolks, shooting my bow, andwaiting for my chance 15-20 feet up a tree. I'm easy to please.:D

RE: What's "Fun", to you?
good question. I say for me it's being able to get in the woods and see deer. that is fun and enjoyable. I see deer= successful hunt for me. I kill one, even better, I kill a wall hanger, the ultimate fun.
|
RE: What's "Fun", to you?
I would say my "fun" has evolved. It used to be just going out and seeing a deer. Then it was going out and seeing some deer. Then it was going out and having a shot at a deer. Then it was going out and having a shot at a buck. Then it was going out and putting together a plan to pursue a particular caliber of deer.
The common thread of it all has been "going out." So, all in all, as long as I'm out there I'm happy and having fun. It sure beats the heck out of being at work.:D |

RE: What's "Fun", to you?
FUN=Freezing my nads off, sleep depravation, sticks in the eye,bug bites, carrying 4 arrows into the woods when the plan is to use only one, sitting so long I can't stand up,standing so long my back is killing me,sleeping in a tree, crawling a half mile on my belly, getting my feet wet, having a itch I can't scratch, laying awake at night wundering where to hunt, laying awake wundering where the game will be,wundering what Mama Dukes will say when I get home, wundering where I'll get the money for more equipment and all the day dreaming in the off season planning and plotting stratagies.
I guess I have to much fun or I may be sick in the head. |
RE: What's "Fun", to you?
Fun for me is just being able to sit in the woods int he dark and then slowly watch them come to life. Everything from birds chirping to squirrels yelling at me to deer winding at me. Just gettin back to enjoying mother nature.

RE: What's "Fun", to you?
Fun to me is getting in the woods and enjoying Gods Creation first hand. Fun is also the comrodery with friends and the times around the campfires. So I guess you would say that I am a "relaxed fun" type of guy. I can go into the woods and not come out with anything and be perfectly content.
|
RE: What's "Fun", to you?
To me the "fun" is getting up early on a crisp cold fall morning and getting in my tree in time to watch the sun come. After a little while of enjoying the wakening day I hear crunching in the leaf and look toward the sound to see a deer, any deer, coming right where I thought that it would. Then driving a 100 grain Muzzy through it's chest and watching it die in sight. And then seeing the look on my sons face when I get home and tell him that I killed one, man October can't get here soon enough.

RE: What's "Fun", to you?
Vabowman said it pretty good! When I go out west Elk hunting or go up north Bear hunting I go there to enjoy myself and get away from all the BS around home. If I get an animal its a plus and if not oh well, I can live with it.

I hear best when there isn't a lot of loud "clutter noise" (tv,cars, radio, etc.). When I am in the woods it seems I can very well because it is so quiet. It is very calming and with all that happens during my normal days, very calming is good ;). |
RE: What's "Fun", to you?
Anythingand everything to do with hunting is fun to me. I like being out among the critter that I am after. I like scouting, planting food plots, filling feeders, hanging stands, cutting roads and shooting lanes.
I enjoy the work involved after the kill.....gutting, draggin, hanging, skinning, and packing. Oh, yeah I think it's fun to be in the woods hunting..............killing is the bonus. |

Fun to me is watching the Red Wings beat up the Penguins!;):D
|
RE: What's "Fun", to you?
Fun for me is having a relaxed attitude. Not feeling like its some high stakes competition.... Sleep in if I want to, get down early if I want to. Fun is finding a new area and being right as to where the deer will come from, etc...
Fun is saying the hell with scent control, just play the wind and take my chances.... Fun is sitting 20ft up a tree with stickbow in hand. Fun is taking my kids squirrel hunting even though its perfect deer hunting weather.... Fun is what you make it.. ;) |
RE: What's "Fun", to you?
well i love to get the rush when im about to shoot, but for me just getting out there is fun
|
RE: What's "Fun", to you?
The challenge, lots of hard work makes the reward that much sweeter. Every thing I do is a competition, I may be in the wrong but when my adrenalin is pumping, I'm having fun.
|
RE: What's "Fun", to you?
Fun ishaving no pressure put on yourself. Having no expected goals and letting things unfold as they may. Being OKwith whatever decision you decide make (such as where to hunt, when to draw, etc, etc) whether it unfolds successful or not.

ORIGINAL: GMMAT Is it beyond the realm of possibility that what might be "fun" for one person.....could be construed as "hectic"....."work".....etc... to the next hunter? This weekend, I went to Balt Trad Classic. Bryon Ferg did his trick shooting thing, and a kid named Chris who was 12 year old came after him to try to do the same shots. Kid was good with his longbow. Already sponsored by gold tip and others. He came over and harrassed me constantly on the bow I was building. You got to love kids honesty. He told me his practice routine which was brutral. What I got out of it, was he loved hearing the clapping and praise, but would rather sit down and start whittling out wood. As amazed as I was to hisshooting, he was more amazed at the flint heads beingknapped out and the bows being built. |

RE: What's "Fun", to you?
My favorite part ofthe hunt iswhen you stop paying attention for a minute and then look up and theres a deer out in front of you. Then your heart starts pounding and you get all excited :Dbest feeling in the world

RE: What's "Fun", to you?
Fun for me in the hunting woods is a mix of success and a sense of freedom. I like being out in the woods. I love hunting......put them both together and I just get a true sense of something greater. But on the other hand, I believe I am very goal oriented and I LOVE the challenge of bowhunting. I would NOT be happy if I did not experience harvesting an animal every year or two.
|
RE: What's "Fun", to you?
Fun, to me, is scaring the crap out of my kids and wife with pranks, leaving a totally ridiculous message on my answering machine, going out with my family to do almost anything, shooting my bow or guns, planning a hunt, shooting and recovering a deer, finding time for the boom-chicka-bow-bow while trying to raise 3 kids(did I just say that was fun?)
Anything that rewards me or someone I love, is fun. It may be work sometimes, but not always. As the old saying goes, "All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy." Work is necessary to accomplish a lot of things, but let us not make it necessary to be a part of all that we do. LT |

RE: What's "Fun", to you?
There is a quotable quote that says " Success is a journey, not a destination." . For me, the same can be for my "hunting fun".
As many of you have said as well, I enjoy every hunt whether it be ideal or inclement weather, whether I see a deer or not, or whatever. This is the journey. But having said that, I personally have to set goals at whatever I partake in whether it be business or hobbies. This is the destination. Once a particular destination is met, I set a new one to try and achieve. Some goals have yet to be met. Doesn't mean I haven't and don't enjoy the journey, I just haven't reached my destination yet. |
RE: What's "Fun", to you?
Fun is telling my dad that I shot a spike buck and seeing his eyes when he walks up to a 10 pointer.

RE: What's "Fun", to you?
I think fun for meits just being able to hunt. Sometimes its fun learning new stuff and actually applying it, then seeing it pay off of. Like correcting a golf swing and seeing yourdriver not slice 50 yards lol, or when shooting a bow for example andseeing a change work, thats pretty fun.
