RE: What's "Fun", to you?
Its going on right now the build up for next season. The wait just drive's you nuts in a fun kind of way. Seeing a deer here and their on my nightly drives to work. Seeing the fresh antlers
sprouting for the first time. Calling my brother and telling him about it and statingless then 4 Months to bow season. Corn is about 2 inches now by the time end of July gets here its allmost full grown and you know the season is around the corner. By the time mid august gets here I am in full blown driving my wife nuts in anticipation of the coming season. I am shooting by bow more then anytime of the year by now. Everything is packed tightly, my truck is clean and the inside sprayed down with scent killer. I call by brother and state HEY BRO 1 month until the season starts and he says really WOW. Sept arrives and my brother calls me now and the ritual starts of calling everyday until January. We figure out if were meeting opening day or the 2nd day of the season. We finally get to the season and a big hug, take a deep breath and he shouts his usuall lets get her done. From here on out for the rest of the year I get my brothers back. This cycle is never ending and this is fun for me among other things.;) Watching my sons grow and starting next year 1 can hunt for the first time here in Wisconsin and this will be the ultimate fun. Before you know it this young boy will be old enough to have a beer with his old man, that will be damn fun! Then in about 5 years the other will be old enough to hunt and the same great cycle comes around again. You guys have fun this coming season and keep it simple. T |

Wow...This is a good topic... I enjoy EVEY hunt. Anytime I sit in a stand, Im having fun. I love all aspects of hunting, from letting the little guys walk, taking doe, hanging stands, planting plots, clearing lanes, making scraping areas, setting and checking trail cams..you name it, I love it. I have so much fun working the properties to better the conditions for deer and my chances at harvesting a nice buck. If you take what the woods gives you, awesome...you had fun and ejoyed the outdoors. For me, I love seeing deer, they all get my heart pumping, but I know when I see a buck I want to harvest. Even if I dont know that particular buck, have no history with him...If my heart starts pumping hardand I have to take a deep breath..then I know he is a shooter..and that is so addicting, seeing as how it doesnt happen eveyday. So as a whole, what makes hunting "fun" to me ishaving ahobby that affords me the ability to spend timein and with wildlife, and itis never ending. Its 365 days per year. Seeing deer makes it fun. Seeing deer use what you provided for them, makes it fun. Having it ALL come together, even if you harvest a doe out of that set, thats fun... I dont have to stick a racked deer to enjoy myself, but working to grow bigger deer and seeing your efforts pay off, thats fun. [/quote Droptine, You and I look at it the exact same way. We work year round on our ranch trying to grow better deer and like you said seeing it pay off is awesome....I could not have said it better myself but I might add my wife and kids aregetting into it also and that adds a whole other dimension of fun to it for me...... |
RE: What's "Fun", to you?
In a weird way, sometimes i just have to laugh at myself when the unexpected happens in the deer woods and the deer win:DThats just fun playing the game and being out there. a score is great, but i have learned to enjoy myself with time well spent ;)

RE: What's "Fun", to you?
Fun is well you know just having Fun!! It will be different things to me on different days or even depending on what area I'm hunting.
Some days it's just busting a Doe other days it would be taking a P&Y Buck. I always set my goals according to the time of year and area I'm hunting. I enjoy the Kill and would not hunt without it. I never set my goals to the point that I take the fun out for the entire year. If someone enjoys sitting in a tree for hours, days, weeks, and months without shooting something then more power to them. It's just not Fun to me;) Dan |
RE: What's "Fun", to you?
I'd have to define "fun" as a cumulitive experience over the course of a season. Sometimes individual hunts are fun....well most times, but sometimes they are down right miserable, but its an acceptable level I am willing to tolerate in order to have a chance at success.
I can't define any specific criteria for fun, but I know it when I am enjoying it. |
RE: What's "Fun", to you?
you really wanna know fun....??? fun is the Cowboys winning a play off game and the Celtics winning a titel again!!! also fun, watching espn classics of the 92-96 cowboys and the 1980's Celtics....it don't get better than Troy Aikman and Larry Bird....;)

Happened in the NCAA and the NBA! Good Times for sure!!;) Dan |
RE: What's "Fun", to you?
Good question Jeff. To ME, fun isanticipating the season (Pa & Alberta), being on this forum conversing with differentfolks, shooting my bow, andwaiting for my chance 15-20 feet up a tree. I'm easy to please.:D I dont have to stick a racked deer to enjoy myself, but working to grow bigger deer and seeing your efforts pay off, thats fun. Some people have had some great responses! Me, I love it all. The spring planting. The summer camera checking and stand hanging. The phone calls and shooting sessions with the other guys I hunt with. The first friday at the cabin before the first day. The chess game that is the season. The 3 D shooting and offseason stuff.....I just dig it all. |
RE: What's "Fun", to you?
"Fun" to me means a lot of different things and can change based on who I'm with or what my intent is.
Jeff used the analogy of golf... Last weekend I played at a TPC course in Texas for a bachelor party kick off, drank a lot of Bud Light and it was fun, regardless of the fact that I shot 83. Previously that week, I shot 74 in a money round... and that was fun as well. :D:D:D Fun is alll in the eye of the beholder;) |

the thrill of having my heart almost jumping out of my throat and playing real life monopoly with in my eyes the greatestanimal there is (whitetail:D)

RE: What's "Fun", to you?
Jeff, What's fun to you??
|
RE: What's "Fun", to you?
Fun to me is being in the outdoors...weather I'm walking my dogs or hunting...I'm happy when I hear mother nature in the background...I love the woods...It means most when its just me, my instincts, and nature.

RE: What's "Fun", to you?
"Fun", to me....
Setting goals (in anything I do) and working my ass off to achieve them. If there's no strife or hard work involved.....it lessens my feelings of "accomplishment". Setting the bar too low....or the lack of a set goal, to me, is the very definition of "mailing it in". I'm not complacent in anything I do.....whether that be work, life or hunting. "Passive" is not in my dictionary. |
RE: What's "Fun", to you?
Jeff now that I am older this answer makes sense and it is a great goal.
I wish I would of started earlier but better late then never. Thx |

the experience all together of hunting is fun to me. getting away from my day to day life, being in the outdoors, the beauty of nature, and the hard work it takes all add up to me. It is the combination of hardwork and results :)

RE: What's "Fun", to you?
Fun to me when it comes to bowhunting is finding the biggest buck in my hunting area and then setting out to get a chance at him. Its getting much harder in my hunting areas since I am not the only one with permission to hunt these areas.

RE: What's "Fun", to you?
It's been said before, but I enjoy just being out there enjoying the great outdoors and all it has to offer. Some days are more enjoyable than others and it's not always the oneswhen you shoot something either.
An example of this was last year I took my 9 year old daughter along with mewhitetail huntingin our traditional rifle season here in Pennsylvania. She was a real trooper, it was very cold that day and she never once complained and actually didn't want to leave when we had to go. I have to admit I forgot how good homemade hot chocolate and cookies taste on a cold day in December :D. We never did see a deer that day and that was OK with us, it was just great being together enjoying the outdoors. This to me was the best and most fun day of hunting I have ever had. Take care, Brian |

RE: What's "Fun", to you?
Being at deer camp with the family. Spending good times with my daughter who is a bowhunting nut and my dad who is getting older. I know that one of these days he isn't going to be here with us at deer camp telling all his great stories. So for now just doing that is the fun stuff. If we get a deer it makes it all the better. But just spending time together and getting my daughter in a good spot is what's fun to me. And she gets to spend time with her grandpa who is her hero.
