What's "Fun", to you?
#1
I hear it so much when I read the forums.....people saying that their goal is to only "have fun" when asked about their expectations for the upcoming season(s).
Is it beyond the realm of possibility that what might be "fun" for one person.....could be construed as "hectic"....."work".....etc... to the next hunter?
People's buttons get pushed in different ways. Some people need a challenge. Some people need to relax. Neither is wrong.
To some.....a "fun" round of golf is drinking beer with their buddies and not caring what they actually shoot. To others.....they get their "fun" from practicing every day....entering tournaments....and competing on the highest level they can. Challenging themselves.
To some....hunting is "fun" when they set no goals. They take what the woods gives them. It's relaxing. No pressure.
Others.....they put pressure on themselves to attain certain goals....and they play off these challenges to define "fun" for them.
It's two different mindsets....with neither being wrong.

For me, fun will be getting my brother on his first deer this fall. Once that happens, my hunting fun will be working to achieve the goals i set. Granted i wont shoot a deer every time i take the woods, but i have fun just seeing animals and putting myself in a situation where i could see a "shooter" be it a doe or buck.

To me, fun i just hunting I guess. I love being in the woods, up in the tree. About the most fun for me is when deer/critters come by and have no idea you are there. Almost like you are spying. I'm not going to jerk anyone's chain here and say the kill isn't part of it, because it is. There is nothing like coming out the woods after getting a deer and calling friends and my brother. That to me is fun.

Good question Jeff. To ME, fun isanticipating the season (Pa & Alberta), being on this forum conversing with differentfolks, shooting my bow, andwaiting for my chance 15-20 feet up a tree. I'm easy to please.

good question. I say for me it's being able to get in the woods and see deer. that is fun and enjoyable. I see deer= successful hunt for me. I kill one, even better, I kill a wall hanger, the ultimate fun.

I would say my "fun" has evolved. It used to be just going out and seeing a deer. Then it was going out and seeing some deer. Then it was going out and having a shot at a deer. Then it was going out and having a shot at a buck. Then it was going out and putting together a plan to pursue a particular caliber of deer.
The common thread of it all has been "going out." So, all in all, as long as I'm out there I'm happy and having fun. It sure beats the heck out of being at work.

FUN=Freezing my nads off, sleep depravation, sticks in the eye,bug bites, carrying 4 arrows into the woods when the plan is to use only one, sitting so long I can't stand up,standing so long my back is killing me,sleeping in a tree, crawling a half mile on my belly, getting my feet wet, having a itch I can't scratch, laying awake at night wundering where to hunt, laying awake wundering where the game will be,wundering what Mama Dukes will say when I get home, wundering where I'll get the money for more equipment and all the day dreaming in the off season planning and plotting stratagies.
I guess I have to much fun or I may be sick in the head.

Fun for me is just being able to sit in the woods int he dark and then slowly watch them come to life. Everything from birds chirping to squirrels yelling at me to deer winding at me. Just gettin back to enjoying mother nature.

Fun to me is getting in the woods and enjoying Gods Creation first hand. Fun is also the comrodery with friends and the times around the campfires. So I guess you would say that I am a "relaxed fun" type of guy. I can go into the woods and not come out with anything and be perfectly content.
