Average wieght of a mature whitetail in your area.

and

Feel free to list the heaviest whitetail you have taken.

Here in my area of NJ, there is mostly private farmland. Seems that, from speaking with other hunters, the average wieght of an adult whitetail is in the 230lbs for bucks, range. 150lbs for doe range

One hunter claimed and was backed by several other hunters to have harvested a buck that wieghed 270. Who knows.

My 2.5yo buck last season dressed at 161 lbs and I killed 2 doe last year that dressed in the same area, one doe tipped the scales at 176, dressed. and the other I didnt wiegh, but she was BIG. Very rare, for me anyway.

I see these guys in the mid-west smacking 300lbs bucks and 250lbs doe !!! Thats BEAST !!
Where did you get this info that I high lighted? Far from the truth!!

I have a hard time believing allot of stuff they say on TV. Specially bucks weighing 300lbs and doe's weighing 250lbs. Being I'm from the Midwest I know how big these deer can get. It sure is possible but not common by any means. A 250lb dressed out buck is a giant. I couldn't imagine a 250lb dressed out doe. I would have to see it to believe it!

300# Bucks??
250# Does??

Not impossible, but Far from common.[8D]

I'd actually say both are killed in a Very, Very low percentage, and I've killed over xxx deer in the midwest with a bow and saw thousands more running a check station for several years.I could count on my fingers those that might have reached those lofty weights and they weren't verified.

My 3 biggest range from 200 - 225. My oldest, 7 1/2, weighted only 167.Deer are like people. They come in different body shapes and lengths. Without weighing them it's easy to be off in weight. My dad shot a long bodied8 pointer that looked huge. He weighed 140# he was real run down from the rut.
I totally agree with you guys about guys guessing at their deer's weight. They are just like fishermen - stretching the weight a bit!

wow, I hate to put myself out there for possible target practice, but I hunt in central and S. E. Ohio. I killed a doe last year that weighed over 200 lbs. from Muskingum Co., my Dad has 2 bucks on the wall that tipped the 300 mark, both from Licking Co. I'm not saying that those were average deer by any means. . .but 140-150 for mature does, and 200-220 for mature bucks is pretty common in my part of OH.
