Buck Magnet

I was just wondering what type of set up would be needed to shoot turkeys with a bow. I have been thinking about it, and I might give it a try this Spring. I have a flock of about 12 turkeys, 3 nice big gobblers, in the woods behind my house. I was just wondering if my normal 100 grain N.A.P. Thunderheads would be good. I know they can kill a deer, but a deer is nothing like a turkey. Where do you aim on turkey with a bow? I know when I shot my turkeys with my shotgun, I aimed at the head but that would be REALLY hard to do with a bow. Thanks for the help.

aim for the wingbuts (have heard above the legs also. Shooting for the wingbutts with the intent of your arrow sticking in and staying there (use zwickey scorpios on your shafts) will pin there wings so they cant fly on ya. Also I think Wasp makes a head that would work well for the big birds.

Buck magnet, I just use the same setup for turk huntin as i do for deer huntin
65 lb pull, and i use easton 2213's with 3 blade 100gr muzzys. it is best for the arrow to stay in the turkey, but not a necessity. lilhuntr is right. aim
for the wing butt, or if he's facing away fanned out just aim for the butt<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Your setup sounds fine for turkeys. I will use the same setup as I do for deer, except that my broadhead of choice will be the Rocky Assassin. With a 1 3/4&quot; cutting diameter, and the fact that they open realy fast, I think they are about perfect for turkey.

Your setup sounds fine; Iv'e used my same deer-hunting setup to take three turkeys. My broadhead of choice is a Rocket Aerohead Miniblaster which has a 1 3/4&quot; cutting diameter.

I have a friend on another forum that has taken several turkeys with a bow. He's come to the opinion he has his best success on TURKEYS with a wide cutting mechanical. They do shoot exactly like a field point and they make a wide hole. Penetration is slowed just about the right amount. He's a confirmed fixed man on deer... but turkeys he uses mechanicals. I've talked to several others that feel the same. I believe he drops his poundage on the bow a little also so he won't have trouble pulling and holding with little or no movement. Anaother good shot is straight in the butt and in the back between the wings. He hunts out of a folding blind. He sets it up ahead of time where he's observed turkeys strutting every morning and goes from there. I think he's limited out with the bow the last couple years in the first couple weeks.

P.S. Another killing shot would be head on straight into the base of the beard. Hope you don't cut it off.

I would strongly recomend using a string tracker. Practice with one, it doesn't affect your arrow untill past about 20 yards and it will give you a good clue as to where to start looking, if it doens't lead you right to your bird!
