Default max range

Waht is the max range you would attempt to take a whitetail or any critter for that matter - I think 35-40 yards is max for me - I have take 3 whitetails over 40 yards but everything was in place - little to no wind, calm animal etc

I'm confident at 40 right now, but I see no reason with some practice I could do 50 or even 60. I just haven't shot 50 or 60 and would just need to shoot it to get sighted in. I don't ever see the need to be shooting 50 or 60 in the woods of Pennsylvania, but I guess it could happen. I guess the only thing I would be worried about is a deer jumping the shot at that range.

A suggestion on testing your max range: Take your very first shot of the day at your max range and see if it hits where you want. Likely, your very first shot of the day will be on a deer during hunting season and if, during the offseason, you can consistantly nail your first shot at your max range then you should be comfortable doing that inseason also.

Another thing to do if you are practicing is split your sessions. Have one in the morning and then, in the afternoon practice "deer shots", single shotsout toyour max range where each one must be a kill shot.

Our max ranges should be the one that we can consistantly make as our first shot of the day and not the one we can make after practicing with 30-50 shots beforehand.
