Well... in the last four years, I've taken 11 deer and 1 turkey.

I will admit, I only spend 2 to 3 days a year chasing birds and every chance I get chasing deer.

I think that taking a turkey is easier than taking a mature buck.

This thread is based on the premise of bowhunting, Greg. I wish you luck in attempting to kill your first that way.

I think it all depends on your location. I hear guys on here all the time saying it is more difficult to take a turkey than a deer. Where I live thats just not the case. Turkey are everywhere here, and deer are..well..here. But they aren't abundant (sp?)like turkeys.

If I had to choose to take 1 deer of any kind or 5 turkeys of any kind.....I would choose the turkeys (assuming that was legal)


Ex. Heres a pic I took about a month ago. There is a treestand ~100 yards away from these guys, and every morning I bowhunted out of it last fall...I had to look at them the whole time.

This is very near where Rob and I were hunting. We kinda didn't see that many, though.....

I most definitely agree Greg!! If you are talking about Mature Bucks vs. a Long Beard? If my life depended on me being successful. I'd take the Long Beard challenge, and be more likely to survive the death sentenceIf I spent the Time Turkey hunting I have deer hunting I am sure I would have several more Long Beards to my credit. Lack of time and IL. seasons has always been my biggest hurdle Turkey hunting.

The length of the season is a DEFINITE mitigating factor in WHY I think turkeys are tougher.

I agree....and the hunt till noon states are even harder

It definitely isn't because of their brains!It really depends on where you are. Access to big areas of ground, longer seasons, all play a big part. Here on the 40 & 80 acre spots I can Deer hunt the Turkeys come and go. Last year the week I drew a tag I never saw or heard a bird. The week after they were all over the place.

Still if I can pick my spot I still like my odds on a Long Beard versus a 150"+ Buck.
